Q: What cable do I use to connect my iMac to my TV?

I googled what cable I would need to connect my iMac to my TV - what I found was that I needed a mini displayport to HDMI adapter.  I found a mini displayport to HDMI converter with audio on Monoprice and the adapter sizzled and did not work.  Thinking that maybe the adapter was defective, I exchanged it.  The new adapter came today - same result.  Anyone have another suggestion?  Monoprice is writing up that they have a known issue with this adapter.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Monoprice's Mini-DP to HDMI adapter is a good choice and should work. It's possible they have had a run of defective adapters. Their customer support is excellent so if the second one failed, you may simply have had two of a bad batch.

What model iMac do you have, and did the adapter fail even when no HDMI cable was connected to it? To determine your model iMac read How to identify iMac models - Apple Support.

Determine either your model or its corresponding model identifier. Examples of each are iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2014) and iMac14,4.
