Q: Hey guys, here's the deal: despite of the fact that I have all of the options at the Software Updated center all set up to perfectly receive updates notifications from Mac App Store, I'm not receiving none.

My system is Mountain Lion.

Do you guys have any ideas?

Thanks.

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Could you clarify/explain what you set up and where? I didn't have to set up anything. The notifications just arrive.

    Hello,

It could be related to : System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General >

The second part of the window, below the line . !

I went to System Preferences > Software Update and checked all the first 3 checkboxes.

But I'm not receivig any update notifications from the Mac App Store. I have to manually go to the Updates part of the Mac App Store app and see if there's any update available.

I used to receive an alert that would show up on the upright corner saying that "New software is ready to be installed", but that suddenly stopped.

Try resetting the App Store application. Go to Applications/Utilities/Terminal, enter the command below, and then hit return. I suggest you copy and paste the command into Terminal.

defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true

Open the App Store application and the top menu bar should look like the screen shot below. One person had to open the App Store twice before the Debug menu appeared.

Under the debug menu, select Reset Application.

I still don't know, man. I gotta wait and see if I'll get any update notifications from the MAS. As soon as I do, I'll let you know here.

    But thx a lot, again.

    Eric,

Can you help me get back out of the "Debug Mode" after this is done? I reset the App Store, but "Debug" still shows up when I open it. I've restarted and rebooted my computer. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Hi.  I have tried several times but I cannot get the debug to show up.  I am doing this with a hope to reset my app store so that I can download Mavericks, which tells me I have downloaded it but I haven't.

My screen looks like this:Screen Shot 2013-10-31 at 12.30.42 AM.png

I had to keep opening the Appstore until the 'debug' heading showed up. I followed the instructions and reset application but I still have that iTunes 12.1 update showing up even though my iTunes tells me it has been updated successfully. I have had 21 notifications since February 15th!

Try re-indexing Spotlight. That is what the App Store uses to know what is installed on your computer.

    Spotlight – Re-index

You can also hide the update.

Mr Root, I have tried all that you suggested above, but it does not seem to be working for me. My iMac will not check for updates nor install them when on my main screen name. When I switch to another screen name, one that is not an administrator, then I see the updates being completed in the background as they should. Those screen names are not used very often though. I have reset the App Store and attempted to have Spotlight reindex, but I am not sure either actually completed. Is there anything else you could recommend?

You posted this 2 years ago, But I wanted you to know that it still works and it just helped me after weeks of frustration. In Snow Leo, I get another menu choice under debug - Cache Buster, which I needed to check off before success.

Thanks, I'm hanging on to SL as long as I can. Too much invested in SW that won't make the jump to Yosemite.
