Q: iphoto

First off, I am rather new to Mac, had been a windows person.   If I do the "faces" thing in iphoto, will I loose my photos that are organized in albums and events.  Thanks for the help.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), null

What exactly do you mean by "do the faces thing"?

I suspect that you do not understand iPhoto and how a database Photo Manager works - you probably are thinking of an old fashioned Windows file management system

When you import into iphoto the photos are copies (by default - and very strongly recommended) into the iphoto library - an SQLite database. The reside there and there are many ways to view the photos - but these are just views of the same photo - not different places

So you can view photos by events, photos, faces, places or in albums and smart albums including a few built in smart albums like last import and last "n" months - again none of those are places - the simply windows into the iphoto library so a photo can be in 1000 albums and take no extra space since all albums simply view the single photo in the database

Have a read of these user tips to help you get started in this new way of thinking

Thanks Larry!   I understand this iphoto app just a little bit better.   I have started the "Faces" identification part.  I am still trying to read and re-read the links you posted about iphoto.  Again, thank you.
