Q: Mac 10.6.8 Freezing!

Hello,

My mac is freezing when opening certain apps such as Skype, Chrome and iPhoto. I ran the hardware tools and things seem to be in order there. I also opened my computer in safe mode to test the apps that were causing the freeze to see if they worked normally there and they worked fine. Any other tips for fixing or trying to solve this error? I'm not a huge computer wiz, so try to dumb it down for me please!

Thanks.

    Hi BR587,

I understand that you have noticed your computer becoming unresponsive when you open certain applications. In this situation, the troubleshooting steps that I would suggest to you are located in the attached article. Please work through the If the issue occurs in various applications, or in Mac OS X section os the attached article and let me know if the issue continues.

I should have mentioned in my previous reply that I have already taken a few steps. I have verify my disk, cleaned any permission errors, opened in safe mode and tested the faulty apps (and the worked fine in safe), and I've created a temp account to see if the same apps caused the freezing and it was the same issue.

I've now been getting a few issues with startup. Sometimes the screen just stays gray after the apple logo disappears. Other times it turns black and I've even tried using the command + R key at startup to reinstall OS X, but once it connects to the internet and completes the first step the screen just turns back to gray and does nothing. I'm still facing the same freezing issues.

Are there any other ideas or reasons for this? It's very frustrating and this notebook is not that old.
