Q: burn photos to CD march 2015

OS X version 10.9.5

iphoto  9.5.1

I want to burn photos to CD.

I have been able to do so in the past.

Step 7 of " Create Your Own Photo CDs" states:

Drag the folder that contains your exported photos to the disc's icon.

I don't see a folder or know where to identify it.

I don't see a disc icon anywhere or know where to look for it.

Too much is assumed by the writers of these instructions.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

First you have to assemble the photos you want to burn to disk in a folder.  Where do you keep those photos?  In iPhoto?  If so then select them and export to a folder on the Desktopvia the  File âž™ Export âž™ File Export menu option. Select Kind to be what you want, either the Original file or the Current/edited version.

Now you'll have the photos in a folder on the Desktop and can go from there.

Additionally, once you insert blank media in your slot, you should see the disc icon on the desktop. If you don't make sure your Finder Preferences are set to show them on your desktop.

I want to burn photos that are in iPhoto.

What does Desktopvia mean?  I've never seen that term before.

What does a folder Look like?

How will I know if the photos are in a folder?

When I insert a blank disc, No disc icon shows on my desktop even though I selected that option in Finder preferences.

When explaining, it is best not to assume that the person you are explaining to knows what you know.

When I insert a blank disc, No disc icon shows on my desktop even though I selected that option in Finder preferences.

    Also check here:

System Preferences > CDs & DVDs - see what you have checked there.

And, check iPhoto Preferences to see what you have checked there.

This is a screenshot of a folder:

You create a new one by going to Finder > File > and, in this case, "New Burn folder".

If you don't want to burn anything, just file documents away, then create a New Folder to put your stuff inside.

System Preferences .> CDs & DVDs  > when you insert a blank CD.....Open in iTunes

What should I set it to if I want the disc icon to show on the desktop?

I used to have it checked to "nothing"; that resulted in an icon on the desktop.

(I can't check because my new iMac does not have a DVD drive, so the options do not show up any longer and I can't check to verify, but I know I had it set to nothing or at least not to open in any app).

Don't you read typo?    It means Desktop.

In the Finder's General Preference pane check these checkboxes:

What should I set it to if I want the disc icon to show on the desktop?

Sometimes a simple restart and/or repairing permissions will make a disc show up on the desktop.

Your drive may need cleaning.  Cleaning kits can be purchased from any store that sells CD/DVDs.

I made the changes you suggested.

Then under Finder, i pulled down File menu, clicked New Burn Folder

I showed up on my desktop.

Then, I dragged my photos to the folder.

Once all the photos were in the folder, I went back to Finder>File and clicked  Burn Burn folder to Disc.

    Et Voila !

    Burned.

Thanks to everyone for your guidance and patience.
