Q: mavericks update keychain access not accepting passwords

Every since I updated to mavericks I am gettting these pop ups that are asking for me to enter my keychain access password for all different access. Every time I enter my password it is rejected. I have tried to reset my default password, did not work. Tried keychain first aid did not work. In addition when I look for these keychain passwords for the websites they are not listed in my password keychain I cannot find them to deal with them indiviually. I have lost the ability to use safari, email, even system preferences. everytime I try to use them they freeze up and I am forced to use force quite. Frustrating to say the least. Can anyone point me in the right direction to assist me.

Thanks

These are the different pop up's:

1. talagent wants to use the "local items"keychain

2. com.apple.icloudhelper.xpc wants to use the "local items" keychain

3. clendarAgent wants to use the "local items" keychain

4.identityservicesd wants to use the "local items" keychain

5..accountsd wants to use the "local items" keychain

6.MAckeeper helper wants to use the "local items" keychain

7. AdressbooksourcesSync wants to use the "local items" keychain

Below short report regarding apparent reasons, conditions and solutions of similar probs as

described in the thread's starting message in case of our mac.

Maybe one day it will help other guys having a battle on it.

I didn't read whole thread, i am sorry for that, not sufficient time for it.

It was on practically sleek new imac late 2013.

First approx. three weeks upon had it got shipped i was just playing and on getting familirized

with new imac. No data migration/import nor app installation was conducted in that time, except

for few minor apps. Two accounts were created, one administrative, plus one with normal/non-administrative access rights.

Some day after that the password for admin account was changed one time.

In most cases however the normal account were used for playing with the new mac.

Upon those 2 till 3 weeks the boot ssd has been encrypted with FV2. This is the mac only internal storage -

this was also the reason for taking FV2.

The whole process of enabling encryption was conducted from normal account -

actually should not be any prob at all because osx is doing rights elevation each time

the admin approval is needed. So this way it ran in this case as well.

    Encryption completed without any probs.

Normal user was able to log in without any probs.

However the admin got a strange error window while attempting to get logged in -

like probs discussed in this thread.

On one hand current/valid password for admin account was not accepted,

on other hand the term used 'keychain' did not fit to term known from the encryption process

'recovery key', so i did not try at all to use recovery key in several pop ups asking for the keychain upgrade/regeneration/continuation of login.

Have let it be few days long due to lack of time to search for nature of problems and possible solutions.

Finally the idea came, one day prior having initiated storage encryption the admin

account got a new password. So I tried the old one in the strange pop up.

It has been accepted. Over all up to three such pop up came. Every time the old/previous

password of admin account was entered. With acceptance. Since then the probs do not occur

    any longer.

I tried this but it does not work.  It simple recreated the folder and started asking me for the password again.  Password to what?  None of it makes any sense.

Well, there are many weeks gone since I got the magic password prompt for the last time.

So the previous/obsolete password of administrator account seems to be all the system wanted for,

the procedure described by myself in this thread previously helped in my case.

For my luck it was only one password, and just one password change iteration back,

fortunately I didn't need to gather deep in password history and there was no more than

    one obsolete password needed.

But how is the chance I will never run in these problems in the future,

means I will never need that obsolete admin password in the future?

It means, can I really wipe out the password from my memory?

Perhaps the good tip for future will be before upgrading to next os x version just

to switch off FileFault2 for the duration of the upgrade. Where this hint from?

Probs arose in this case after FV2 has been switched on.

I had the same problem, here is what I did:

    • Make sure you are logged in as administrator.
    • Open "Keychain Access".
    • Right (or control) click the keychain in question and select "Change Password for Keychain "(name of keychain)" from the drop-down menu.
    • Type your current administrator password in the "Current Password" field.
    • Type your current administrator password in the "New Password" and "Confirm Password" fields as well.

    Best wishes, Vaughn

Thank you so much. This seems to have solved the problem for me too. This is my first Mac, and boy, it's not a great introduction at all. I have loved my three iPads and iPhones, but I was ready to throw the Macbook Air out the window.

THANK YOU!!!!     This is the only fix that has worked for me.  IMPORTANT:  Look at the insert  in "frighty"'s response, make sure the "auto-lock" is unchecked.

    Hello There.

The FIX worked only until the apple software updated, after restart the Icloud keyckain asked for password.

Then After that, every time i open the machine from sleep or start up it pop up the windows.

I have updated the machine to Yosemite and still the same problem; It did not give me a chance to clean install the software.

How can i clean install the Yosemite software, this a solution i have not tried.

Please advise, i have been on the Genius Bar and also no good luck with this pesky problem.

    Tks
