Jan 25, 2015 9:32 AM in response to léonieby hmizia,léonie, I did not understand the full risk of choosing that option, so thank you! not sure why my photos are no longer being imported in duplicate then, just glad they aren't.

Jan 25, 2015 10:16 AM in response to hmiziaby Old Toad,See Terence Devlin's posts in these topics: Re: New to iPhoto - Converting from Windows 7 and Re: I have over 45000 photos named and numbered why does IPhoto want to (Import) the photos that are already on my Computer?
They are excellent treatises on the pitfalls of a referenced library.

Jan 26, 2015 10:14 PM in response to pontixby solzoc,Same problem, but I was able to solve by only replugging my iPhone.

Jan 29, 2015 5:59 PM in response to léonieby dstoronto,I am having the same problem and I'm convinced it's Yosemite. I started using my iPhone 6 in Dec and did not have the duplicate issue... until I installed Yosemite a few weeks later. Until Apple fixes the bug, my temporary fix for deleting the unwanted dupes: Expand the photo thumbnails to maximum so that there are two columns (original on the left, dupe on the right). Drag/Select the entire column of dupes and delete.

Feb 2, 2015 6:34 PM in response to pontixby SAMIPRO11,I import all my photos from my iPhone 6 using Image Capture and I was having the same exact issue. My cloud was off, the "keep the normal" from HDR was off and I was NOT shooting in burst mode but each time I tried importing from Image Capture I would see doubles of everything.
The easiest solution to this is issue is, once you have Image Capture open and you see doubles of your photos, unplug the USB cable that's connected to your MacBook or iMac and connect it again with Image Capture open and you should see the doubles go away. I've tried it a few times and it seems to make the doubles go away. Good luck.
Yosemite / iPhone 6
10.10.2 / 8.1.3

Feb 17, 2015 1:45 PM in response to pontixby Adessi,Hi Guys,
Think i've worked out what the problem is (well it fixed it for me anyway).
Plug your iPhone in to iTunes. On the summary screen, scroll down to Options. Uncheck 'Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi.
Basically i think everytime i opened iPhoto with my phone plugged in, it had already synced the photos from my camera roll over Wi-Fi, then again over the hard connection, resulting in duplicates of each photo.
Hope it works for you.

Mar 7, 2015 11:32 AM in response to pontixby Jvtb,I have this same problem to. *** Before connecting your phone to your computer, make sure that you have the camera app open. *** this way it won't import doubles. Just open and be in the camera app before connecting your phone to the computer. This is the only solution I've found.

Mar 7, 2015 10:51 PM in response to Jvtbby twocrabs2,jvtb, THANK YOU. This worked for me too. I thought I was going mad and was the only one experiencing this problem, especially when I read some of the naysayer posts on this thread. Just a clarification: don't turn off your phone screen after opening the Photo App. Keep it on! No more duplicate photos. Hopefully Apple will fix this problem in next iPhoto update.

Mar 16, 2015 11:13 AM in response to twocrabs2by ericfromwi,I use Image Capture for transferring, and started having the duplicate problems out of nowhere, so the latest updates, iPhoto, Yosemite, the iPhone 6 ...not the problems. But gosh darnit after reading this and opening the camera app as instructed, it did stop the duplicates for me too! Ha ha! It's just funny after all these posts, that THIS is the answer! However, always tinkering and trying everything, I tried something further: I unplugged the phone from the computer, shut down the camera app, plugged the phone back in, opened Image Capture, and no duplicates! Hmmm... now THAT"S a bug! At least this may be a way of controlling it for now...

Mar 16, 2015 11:28 AM in response to ericfromwiby LarryHN,now THAT"S a bug!
Be sure to report to Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback - and/or same spot in Image Capture

Mar 21, 2015 3:09 PM in response to pontixby endoman67,I am having the same issue, with an iPhone 5 running iOS 8.2, and OS X 10.10.2. When I plug in my iPhone, iPhoto shows duplicates of each photo taken by my iPhone. I just upgraded to the latest version of iPhoto TODAY! (9.6.1).
I really don't understand this. I see someone replied saying "iPhoto only imports what you give it, it won't EVER duplicate...." Well, I'm sorry, but that's not what is happening. I generally don't use HDR, and I have the option to save the original image turned off, so there is no reason I should have any duplicate photos on my phone. AND, even if that is the case, my iPhone is an Apple device - why would it be saving duplicates?!? Why would it have compatibility problems with iPhoto, which is an Apple program??
I have noticed that NO ONE FROM APPLE HAS MADE ANY COMMENT ABOUT THIS, OR OFFERED ANY HELP, OR MADE ANY VISIBLE ATTEMP TO FIX IT, AND WON'T ACCEPT A DIRECT SUPPORT REQUEST WITHOUT PAYMENT. WHAT'S THE DEAL, APPLE? You guys are supposed to be the best technology company on the planet - how come you're not even acknowledging this problem, let alone fixing it????
Seriously - is it too much to expect that my Apple devices should be compatible with each other??

Mar 21, 2015 4:12 PM in response to endoman67by Terence Devlin,Is it too much to expect that you would learn about the forum you're posting on? This forum is users talking to other users. Apple don't talk here, they don't read here. It's all explained in the terms you agreed to when you signed up. So, it's a minor glitch. Lots of folks have posted solutions and workarounds. Why not read first?

Mar 22, 2015 10:25 AM in response to Terence Devlinby endoman67,You are right, of course. I was venting my frustration and chose a poor venue for doing so. My bad.
I've tried a couple of the tips I did find, and still have the duplication issue. I also updated iPhoto yesterday, yet the bug still appears to be there. It takes a lot of time to wade through the comments, and I just haven't had the time to research it fully. As you say it is fairly minor in the long run.
As for my poorly worded comments about Apple, I know they don't post here, but since this issue has been around for a while and I have installed a couple of iPhoto and several iOS updates since it's been happening, I find it a bit frustrating. And short of a paid service plan, I'm not even sure how to get comments to Apple. I've tried a few times through the support site, but there doesn't seem to be a place to submit comments about issues like this. Am I missing something?
If you have any ideas for me to try, it would be appreciated.
