And, for any of the newer OS versions, you will want to add some RAM as 4 GB is generally thought to be the bare minimum - 8 or more would be much better. Here is the RAM from one of the two recommended vendors (the other one is Crucial):

However, if you plan on doing any video editing, high powered photo editing, etc. it would be prudent to upgrade your RAM to at least 8 GB. You iMac can use up to 16 GB of memory.
The two top memory suppliers for Macs are Crucial.com and otherworldcomputing.com (or macsales).
