Q: ITunes Keeps Removing/Deleting All My Music

Ok, so I always sync my iPhone to my Macbook Pro at home.  When I go to work, I always plug my phone into my work computer (windows) to charge or play music through iTunes, using iTunes simply as a media player.  This has worked for me for the past four years.  Recently I am finding that when I plug my phone in at work, it will play a song or two, and then it deletes ALL of my music.  It shows my music library with the icon of a circle & exclamation point.  I then have to go home and re-sync all 3,000 of my songs.  It's weird, though.. it happens but not immediately.  For example, I was able to listen to all of my music all day at work yesterday, and today when I plugged it in, it erased everything.  This has only been happening since the software update, it appears.

If anyone who has experienced this or who would be able to help me, I would greatly appreciate it. =)

PS.  I like to manually manage my music at home.  I really don't mess with the settings on my work iTunes, but there very well could be something that I am missing.

Thanks in advance!

    Hey smm1129,

It sounds like your iPhone is syncing automatically when connected to your work computer. In order to ensure that this doesn’t happen without your knowledge, use the information in the following article to prevent automatic syncing of your devices on your work computer:

iTunes 11 for Windows: Require a prompt before automatic syncing

Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

    Cheers,

    Braden,

Thanks so much for your reply.  I knew it was a sync issue so I had originally unchecked "automatically sync when this iPhone is connected", under the summary..  which wasn't doing the trick.. but I did not know about the second step which you directed me to under preferences --> devices.  These preferences are sometimes tricky to find even when they are right in front of your face, lol.  I will test the updated settings today.

    Thanks again,

    Suzanne

    Hello,

So I plugged my phone into the computer, and was able to listen to music.  I go to lunch and unplug my phone.  After lunch, I plug it back in, the phone plays one song, and then stops.  All of the music is not there again.  Every song has the circle with the exclamation point.

Any other suggestions?  The settings you suggested are still applied.

    Thanks,

    Suzanne
