If the Apple TV is unable to maintain an active internet connectionto update, then the other option to update would be to restore the Apple TV. I see that you said you had previously restored, but if that was successful then your Apple TV was updated to the current version.

Yes, I have done a Restore (twice!), from the Settings>General>Restore on the AppleTV. It boots back up with firmware version 6.0.2...but shows that there is a pending update, which fails to download & install...repeatedly. There is an active internet connection (fluctuates a bit, between a download speed of 8.0 and 9.5 Mb/sec, according to speed tests) at all times.
In the link you provided, I see an alternate updating/restore method, using a micro USB connection to iTunes. I'll give that a try, this evening after work.
