Q: My MacBook suddenly started running slow

Hello! I've had my MacBook Pro for since 2010 and it suddenly started running slow. This has been going on for a week already. I've restarted my MacBook many times and when I'm not using it I shut it down. I've tried many things to make it run faster and deleted 14k files that were mostly text documents, pictures, videos, etc. and deleted my whole iTunes library hoping it would work but nothing. I currently have 77.07 GB left but space has never been the problem since in the past I've had 10GB or to the point where I had no GB and it still ran perfectly. Two things I've noticed is that when it gets hot it starts running slow and also when I start watching videos on youtube or ones that are already in my MacBook. Last night I reset my SMC hoping it would work better and it only ran slow because of the heat but I see no change. I'm trying anything possible to fix this myself before taking it to the Apple Store and spending money on something I could've probably fixed myself.

Here's some information on my MacBook

MacBook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2010

Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 220M 256 MB

Software: OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

You will do far better (no disrespect to my good friend Lex) if you started a new thread of your own.   People will probably not bother to trawl through 35 pages of replies to reach your question.   As it happens, I did, and you do have problems with the Zeobit / Mackeeper you have installed.   So start a new thread and someone will look at it further.

My good friend seventyone (Hi my friend) is right, make a new thread and post the link here.

I am travelling at the moment 1500km and will be available tomorrow.

A quick scan of your list: search this forum for "uninstall MacKeeper", and uninstall it !!!!

After that there are some less important things.

Interspaced between the five posts above I have twice said this thread is too old to be used as a basis for a new post.   Please, at least scan through some of the replies to see if a new thread would be better.   You have multiple problems with some of the worst offenders ... MacKeeper, Downlite, uTorrent, the list goes on.   Please post a new thread with a similar question and people will advise the CURRENT best resolutions.

    Hey Guys,

Took your advice, created an EtreCheck report and started a new discussion here: Macbook Pro Mid 2010 Running VERY Slow

Any help would be appreciated, tried cleaning this bad boy up but I am a bit Mac illiterate so was having some trouble trying to figure this out. Pro going very slowly, seems to line up when I updated to Yosemite.

Side note - I think it's awesome what you're doing help folks out and being so diligent with your responses.

    Cheers!

This is the only problem I see with anything you have installed. No application should ever be crashing or hanging like this. Use the developers instructions for uninstalling uTorrent and never install it or anything like it again.

Almost everybody that uses BitTorrent software it is breaking the law, so it can get you in even more trouble than just having a slow MBP. I heard about a conviction in this area just last week.
