Q: Songs Disappearing from iTunes

Then you've not experienced what I have the past year with songs repeatedly vanishing, over 3,000 songs duplicated in the library, playlists that I spent untold hours compiling completely gone.

ITunes is old news for me. I've moved to MediaMonkey which has worked flawlessly, including synching. If only someone would come out with an MP3 player with the capacity of an iPod.

No luck looking in organise library points me to my NAS drive, which is where I told iTunes to put my music files.

Any other ideas.

Same thing is happening to me. I have had music files as well as Films and TV shows just disappearing from iTunes and then i go try and add them back and they are totally missing from my Mac too... At first i thought my hard drive was goosed. I bought a new one. I still have the same issue!!! Its annoying me!!! GRRRRR!!!

Missing songs here too.  I think it's just songs I've added from CDs.  I know I import only whole CDs, but somewhere down the line I go to play the album and 2 or 3 songs are missing.  Haven't had any purchased stuff missing, yet (I have all of my invoices, so I'll be able to see if any purchased songs are missing), and I'm going through everything else and reimporting CDs/songs when needed.  I've copied the whole Music folder and now manually maintain that backup copy.  If I buy something I make a copy of it in the copied folder, and if I import a CD I make a copy of those songs in the backup folder.  Haven't noticed any videos/book/photos or anything missing.

Just chiming in that my files are disappearing from iTunes as well. Different tracks disappear upon opening iTunes. I usually buy the CDs, then rip them at Lossless for the higher bitrate, so downloading from the iTunes store is not a help.

I have lost all artists starting with the letter "A" (Yes, ABBA, but also Arctic Monkeys). Mostly ripped from owned CDs, some downloads. As people have said previously: not just indexes lost, but the actual audio files appear to be gone. This has made me very unhappy and worried. OS X Yosemite...

I did this and when I tried to import my music library they said that the tunes did not exist... I have backed up my computer lots of times  so maybe I can find them somewhere else and re enter...

I have this same problem all of 1 album is gone except for one song...... The album that I bought was Preppy Cat, witch was created by N2 The Talking Cat.

It wouldn't be so bad if they just fell off the list of songs, but the actual song files seem to get deleted. Whoa! I wonder if this is related to all the trouble people are having syncing their iStuff through iTunes? It's the "waiting for changes to be applied" syndrome (another big discussions thread). It seems to happen when iTunes can't find a song that is in the list of songs that should be getting synced.  Using a program that acts like a Finder on your iPhone/iPad (I use iExplorer), deleting an xml list on your phone/pad that shows what should be there, and restarting the sync rebuilds that list and all is well. I'm going to go post this theory over on that thread.

To keep this thread alive – I happens to me, too, and it's driving me nuts.

I have about 3TB of music files, and fortunately I make regularly backups using ChronoSync. During each backup any file missing in the source folder is not deleted in the backup, but moved to a special folder called _Archived Items. So I see immediately want went missing between two backups (and can restore it). So it's clearly visible that iTunes deletes tracks at its own discretion, sometimes a few within an hour, sometimes none for a couple of days. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to its actions.

It is unbelievable that this topic got about 300.00 views by now, but nobody seems to have a clue, and nobody at Apple seems to care.

Is there any decent alternative to iTunes if one is only interested in managing a large music library? I don't even care about syncing music to other devices.

I am very upset by Apple, especially with iTunes. So many songs deleted without my knowledge. Some are tracks I created. Some are CD's imported from my collection. Playlists destroyed. Hours and hours of content descriptions edited for my own personal enjoyment lost. What is MediaMonkey? I think I need to check it out.

Chronosync, I will check this out too. Unfortunately, any backups I have are not as easy to recover. I cannot believe Apple has done this.

Good thing you make regular backups.

You do make regular backups, correct?

I have back ups somewhere. It will be a hassle to restore my media the way I want it organized.

Apple's software appears to be designed to function this way (losing tracks). I don't understand why.

If it was organized when you backed it up, simply restoring it will put it back organized...
