Q: Is the Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update 1.2 ruining my monitor?

I finally upgraded from Mountain Lion to Mavericks a couple of weeks ago, and this "Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update 1.2" appeared as an option some days afterwards. I installed it like 4 days ago. Today, I started suffering flickering and the display going to black.

Reading other comments I see that others, after much more pain that what I could expect for such a high end (and price) monitor, resorted to buying another thunderbolt cable to avoid this problem. It seems that's something I will need to try and see if it avoids the problem, but Apple couldn't say it can be proud of a fix like that.

This problem is really annoing, and even more so knowing that before the firmware upgrade is now several months old, and it seems there is no sign from Apple prioritizing the fix for this problem.

Given that I spent one week with Mavericks and without this firmware update, I would suggest that the very same problem this firmware update is trying to solve is indeed the source of pain for many of us Thuderbolt Display owners.

Somebody know how to escalate a case like this within Apple? At least for the firmware developers to know that this update is causing problems for a lot of people?

I would also suggest to Apple to avoid pushing this update to more users until you can get more diagnostics on what's going on with this update. There is something wrong, please avoid inflicting more pain on more users!

Anyway, anybody knows how to revert to the previous firmware?

Thanks for your help,

rgmarcha
