I'm not sure why you would have received a text message, because there should not have been a way for it to happen. Even with allowing calls from Favorites, text message notifications should not come through, unless you have it set for Lock only and the screen was awake.

Mar 29, 2015 5:07 AM in response to ChrisJ4203by Marin785,Hello, the DND function has definitely changed - at least on my phone and my husband's phone. It looks like you're right about the "favorites" selection, but it has changed for the "everyone" function! On this support page --> https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204321 <-- the screen shows that under the "Allow Calls From" option, the phone says "Incoming calls from your favorites will not be silenced." That is what my phone still says if I select "favorites" - so, calls from Favorites will not be silenced, but all text messages will be.
In the past, when I selected to still allow calls from "Everyone," the message underneath my selection used to say "No incoming calls will be silenced." But incoming messages WERE silenced, as with the "favorites" option. However, when I select "Everyone," the messages underneath my selection now says "No incoming calls OR MESSAGES will be silenced." (Emphasis is mine!) And, sure enough, I now get messages! It's very frustrating because I always used DND to silence everything except calls, and I never wanted to limit calls to only "favorites" because I always felt that in a real emergency someone might call from another phone other than their other number.... I never wanted to let in only repeat calls, either, because in a real emergency I want to answer the phone right away.
Any other suggestions other than having to turn off my text message alerts manually every night? Any information on whether they might change this back to the way it was before?
Thanks for your help!

Mar 29, 2015 1:31 PM in response to Marin785by ChrisJ4203,I'm trying to test this right now, but I do not remember the wording that you have emphasized. To my knowledge, Do Not Disturb, when turned on, will silence all Messages. I'll get back and edit this in a few minutes after I've completed my test. I really do not know right at this minute if it has changed. Not saying that yours is not working in that manner, I just have to see what mine does before I give you any more troubleshooting.

Mar 29, 2015 1:47 PM in response to Marin785by sberman,I completely agree with ChrisJ4203's responses above.
But one exception does come to mind:
Might you have received an Amber Alert (or other emergency government alert) as the message that came through?
I'm not sure if those are blocked by Do Not Disturb.

Mar 29, 2015 1:54 PM in response to ChrisJ4203by ChrisJ4203,I just tried again and my edit was rejected, but here is what I wrote.
I tried it with my son, both ways. Both of us turned it on and off, tried sending messages and no messages got through. I'm not sure why yours did, but have you done any troubleshooting? Power the phone off/on? Reset by holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release? Turn Do Not Disturb Off and then back ON again?

Mar 29, 2015 10:53 PM in response to Marin785by Marin785,Thanks for the responses! It most definitely used to be that when I set my phone for DND but selected to allow calls from "everyone," I received no text message alerts (they would be on my screen in the morning but my screen would not light up and my phone would not make a noise when I got them). I had been doing this for about a year. However, now, when I do DND and select to allow calls from "everyone," the phone specifically says underneath "No incoming calls or messages will be silenced," when previously it used to just say "No incoming calls will be silenced," and now I do get text message alerts with DND on with those settings. When you tried it with your son, were you selecting to receive calls from "everyone" or had you done "favorites" or "no one"?
I have powered off and on my phone several times and definitely turned DND on and off a number of times. And this same change has occurred on both my and my husband's iphones.
For now I'm just getting accustomed to the idea that I will have to turn on DND (to turn off things like calendar alerts) AND turn my text message alerts off manually from the "sounds" portion of settings every night unless I want to restrict phone call alerts to "favorites" or only repeat calls, neither of which I would be comfortable with. Very frustrating!
Thanks again for your help and please let me know if you have any other suggestions!

Mar 29, 2015 10:54 PM in response to sbermanby Marin785,Thanks for the response! Was not an Amber alert though, just a regular text message. I gave a little bit more detail below to Chris, but this is definitely a change. Appreciate any suggestions!

Mar 29, 2015 11:04 PM in response to Marin785by Marin785,Just took two (hazy) pictures of my phone with the DND settings open so you can see the different descriptions that appear if I select "favorite" ("Incoming calls from your favorites will not be silenced") versus "everyone" ("No incoming calls or messages will be silenced").
Here's favorites:
And here's everyone:

Mar 30, 2015 9:16 AM in response to Marin785by ChrisJ4203,To be honest, after reading what you wrote again, I cannot really say what it used to say. I believe you, but then I guess that putting Everyone in Do Not Disturb seems to defeat the purpose of it, but then if it let phone calls through by not mail, texts, etc. I guess it that was what you wanted that worked.
I believe all of my devices in the house are updated. The only one that might not be is my wife's, and I won't be home again to check that one until around 10PM Central tonight. I'll check it and will drop another note here to see if there is a change in the way it reads and then works. Your best bet at this time would be to leave feedback to Apple about your wishes HERE.
