Q: Merge contacts

I used to have my contacts in one column with 2 titles: "on my mac" AND "iCloud" - Currently the only title is "iCloud". My mac bk pro is the only APPLE product we have in the family - so coordinating the contacts and calendar mean little! I understand there is a task t perform to have them both, once again. Does anyone have the step by step details HOW TO DO a merge in order to have it both ways? If so, I would want to somehow, save all my contacts (on desktop) in case something went wrong, I would still have them. Is there perhaps a step by step directive from Apple "KB" that you know of? THNX

If you switch iCloud Contacts off you will get the option to save them to your Mac, they will no longer sync between other devices.

Can u recommend a way (step by step) for me to archive or save them on my desktop incase things go "amiss" before I attempt this?

Archive or make copies of your iCloud data - Apple Support

if you choose v card you will not get GROUPS but if you choose Archive you will get groups.

Thanks but this is mumbo jumbo talk I do not understand. V card; archive versus ?what? - Can you recommend a link that goes step by step and also, where am I saving the info? Thanks for the good thought however! Anxious to hear back. Dear Csound1 also same question... I want o be sure I still have contacts available in case something goes awry.

Follow the instructions posted by smokerz, when you get to the export, choose vCard, the contacts will be saved, on your desktop, in a vCard file.
