Q: Since IOS 8 Update Unable to receive Yahoo mail

After updating iPhone to IOS 8, I can't get Yahoo mail account to work.

Having searched posts of others with similar problem, I have tried suggested fixes.  I have deleted and added this mail account numerous times, powering off and restarting phone each time.  I've checked settings.  I've reconnected to iTunes to sync.

After 2 days of effort, I am finally able to send emails from Yahoo account, but am still unable to receive emails.  Instead, the inbox is empty and the notification bar shows:

"Checking for Mail" changes to "Updated Just Now" for a split second then reverts to "Checking for Mail" and continues in never-ending loop with no mail 'delivered'.

Resources below, given to many others having similar problems, have not resolved the problem.

IOS: Troubleshooting Mail and

The only way I've been able to access Yahoo mail account is by downloading their App.  I'd rather have all mail available through Apple Mail system as it was before updating to IOS 8.0.2.

I'm having the exact same problem on iPad since upgrade to IOS 8.

Any help appreciated.

I had this same problem - I tried rebooting phone, deleting and re-adding yahoo account, finally the ONLY thing that worked was changing my password on my pc and then going thru the whole deleting re-adding yahoo account on my phone

I fixed the same problem by the following steps

1- Setting > Mail, Contacts, Calenders > Fetch New Data > Turn off Push + Chose Every 15 Minutes.

2- Delete your mail account  and  Re-add.

Like others on this list, I had the same issue yesterday when I upgraded to the IOS 8. I tried rebooting the phone, that didn't work. One thing I did that might help others is that I downloaded the Yahoo app from the app store and that worked no problem. So while I was trying to get my Yahoo mail to work with the iPhone method, I add least had regular access to my yahoo mail.

The imap method worked for me but I had to delete the account twice and try it twice to get it to work. I know there are other links in this thread, but for me the following instructions worked:

Had to look into this for a friend at the beginning of the week & just thought I'd add what I've discovered in case it is of any help to anyone else.

No problems sending emails with Yahoo! account via the Mail for iOS app on friends iPad but nothing being received and app just showed 'Last Updated on 21/02/2015' at the bottom. Completely removing & recreating the account made no difference but setting up both IMAP & the Yahoo! Mail app worked correctly. Not happy with either solution though as IMAP does not include Contacts, etc & friend would be confused with 2 mail apps.

Searches online seemed to hint at the problem possibly being with Yahoo & eventually managed to work out how to contact them about it but before receiving the reply below that seems to confirm this, I resolved the problem by backing everything up to iCloud & completing wiping & reinstalling everything. This fixed the problem but may not be the case for everyone, going on this reply to my tweet:

This is also a copy of the email reply received sometime later:

Hopefully, this may help some of you.

I just switched from an iPhone 5 to an iPhone 6 and loaded the 8.2 update.

I was not able to utilize my Yahoo email on the iPhone 6

It kept giving me an error that my ID or Password was incorrect (they were correct).

    1. I downloaded the Yahoo Email App

    2. I had trouble with Yahoo accepting my password

    3. I gave them my ID and said I forgot my password (part of the app)

    4. They sent me a code  (to my backup email address) so that I could change my password

    5. I changed my password (in the Yahoo app)

    6. I entered the changed password in the Apple email --- AND IT ACCEPTED

My normal Yahoo email NOW WORKS!!!

    Good luck...

A lot of people have been unable to access Yahoo e-mail on their iPhones or iPads. My wife’s iPad was not downloading Yahoo mail, although her iPhone was. Both used IOS 8.2. We tried deleting the account several times and troubleshooting all of the other settings. The problem appears to have been that allowing the IOS to automatically create the account on the iPad resulted in the wrong settings for the incoming server. The following procedure, pieced together from two websites, fixed the problem for us. So far, so good.

    https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2659/configure-imap-for-iphone-or-ipad.aspx

    https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mobile-mail/imap-server-settings-sln4075.html

    On the iPhone, tap Settings.

    Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Tap your Yahoo account, then delete it.

    Tap Add Account.

    Tap Other.

    Tap Add Mail Account.

Complete the Name, Address (email address), Password and Description fields.

    Click Next.

    Ensure IMAP is selected.

Enter the following incoming mail server information:

Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL

    Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com

    Port: 993

    Requires SSL: Yes

    Hostname is mail.yahoo.com.

Username is your full email address

Password is the same password used to access webmail.

Enter the following outgoing mail server information:

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires SSL

    Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com

    Port: 465 or 587

    Requires SSL: Yes

    Requires authentication: Yes

Username is your full email address

Password is the same password used to access webmail. It may have been entered for you.

    Tap Next.

The iPhone will establish an SSL connection to your IMAP and SMTP servers.

    That’s all!

I lost the ability to receive emails on my iPhone 5s after changing my Yahoo email password. I used a variation of the instruction from BHart

    On the iPhone, tap Settings.

    Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Tap your Yahoo account, then delete it.

    Tap Add Account.

Tap Other. ( this is at the bottom of the page)( this is important. do not tap Yahoo)

    Tap Add Mail Account.

Complete the Name, Address (email address), Password and Description fields.

    Click Next.

    It will verify

Incoming Mail server (it should look like below )

    HOST NAME inbound.att.net

User Name ( your full email address should be here)

Password ( your email password dotted out)

Outgoing Mail Server ( it should look like below)

    SMTP outbound.att.net

    hope it works

Re: Since IOS 8 Update Unable to receive Yahoo mail

Lafayette's post on March 30th resolved the issue for me.  I followed his procedure and now my email is being downloaded into the Mail app on my iPhone.  Hope this works for you, too.

I have spent two days trying to get my yahoo email back on my iphone.  This is what worked for me:  signin to your yahoo email on your computer, go to account info, go to account security.  At the bottom it will have an app generated password.  Name your email and get a generated password.  Then when you setup your yahoo email on iphone, use this generated password to setup not your password you use on your computer to signin to your yahoo email.  I hope this helps

I find that deleting the mail account. Then going to yahoo.com via safari, signing in to mail via the web, then re-adding the account fixed my problem. Never had an issue since. According to Yahoo its some security measure to validate the ID of the device to be used with a third party client, i.e. Apple iOS Mail app.
