Q: ical not syncing since ios 8 update

My ical icloud sync worked fine before ios 8 update. For years.

Now, no calendar changes migrate between my iphone and my other devices. These problems began with the ios 8 update.

I am using iMac w/Maverick, iPad 3 with ios 8.1, iPhone 5s with ios 8.1.

Changes made on iMac migrate to iPad, changes made on iPad migrate to iMac. Only the iphone ical does not receive changes from other devices, nor do changes made on iphone ical migrate to iMac or iPad.

I have read all of the referenced (and also outdated) Apple support documents on ical issues.

I have created a new Apple ID.

I have reset my devices.

I have restored my devices.

Apple needs to address this bug.

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1, iMac w/Mavericks, iPad 3 w/ios 8.1

Thanks to theBeachGeek, you nailed it!

This morning, for the first time since getting my iPhone 6+, I turned on iCloud Drive and began tinkering with it.

After it was time to return to work and start scheduling business appointments from my MacBook Pro, I was frustrated to find that none of my new calendar appointments were appearing on my iPhone.  Trying to stay cool, I systematically went through all the normal routines most people in this thread have tried.  Without any success.

Then I read your post, and turned "OFF" iCloud Drive on my iPhone 6+. "Shazam!", the calendar on my iPhone started to populate the added appointments.  WHEW!  What a relief.

Thanks for your posting, It would have taken me a lot longer to figure this one out.

Now, what do we do about the iCloud Drive Bug?

I just purchased the 200GB package for iCloud Drive use.

OK Apple, the balls in your court.

I'll give it a little time for Apple to Confess, Repent & Correct before requesting a bolt of lightning, or a refund.

    Blessings.

I too have been having this problem since getting an iPhone 6 and updating my iPad to 8 and laptop to Yosemite.  Syncing calendars had been working flawlessly for me since the old days of MobileMe!  To lose reliability now as an "upgrade" is quite frustrating.

None of the solutions above worked for me.  I turned off iCloud drive.  I logged out of iCloud and back in.  Most events showed up on all three devices, but sporadically some events were showing up on my phone and laptop but not the iPad, no matter what.

Then I changed one setting on the iPad.  In Mail, Contacts, Calendars >> Sync I changed from "Events 1 Month Back" to "All Events", and voila, events later today and all other new ones in the future suddenly showed up.  These were events in the FUTURE, not more than 1 month back!

APPLE, THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A BUG!!!  Actually, this sounds like several bugs.  What used to be a very reliable system is now disappointingly buggy.

I'm with Boomer II.  You really need to address this!  A good start, from a good will perspective, is to own up to it, apologize, thank us all for bringing it to your attention, and promise it will be fixed in 8.1.2.

    THANK YOU!

I did as you suggested and turned off iCloud on ALL of my devices.

I am now able to make calendar changes on my Yosemite iMac and they populate onto my iOS devices! Well, at least it worked today lol.

So now what, we can't use iCloud? Hello Apple?

Thank you theBeachGeek. I seriously thought I was losing my marbles as I would make changes on my iMac cal and then watch them revert back.

I have a lengthy post about this issue, here: Calendar: Not syncing repeating event updates in 10.10.1

In my latest note, I detail that I wiped my iPhone 6+ (128) last week. I still have to go into Calendars and pull down to have it refresh. It's infuriating.

On 10.10.1, Repeating calendar events will take information, but when I close the app and reopen it, the info is gone, like I didn't do anything. It's never hitting the servers.

So I waited a couple of days and turned iCloud back on, and the changes made on my calendars worked, for a day. I tried making cal changes from each device. I had to refresh the cals, but it worked! Then the same problems came back. So I tried the shortcut of going to settings/preferences and turning off the calendars in iCloud, then turning back on. No bueno. So I once again did as thebeachgeek said and turned off iCloud. I guess I will just keep iCloud OFF until Apple solves this bug. Many thanks to those who contributed their thoughts and ideas here. Please let us know if there is a permanent resolution!

Also 1 correction, my iMac and Macbook are both Maverick. Sorry for the confusion.

I have the exact same problem. Is anyone at Apple listening? I have been turning off and on all my calendars on iCloud every so often to manually fix the issue. But, is there any way to get it back to where it automatically updates?

I have a server running Yosemite. Ever since my wife's iPhone was "upgraded" to iOS 8.1.2 her calendars on the iPhone no longer sync with those on the server.  I didn't upgrade yet and all is working correctly, including shared calendars on the server. No macs have any problems using calendars on the server. Therefore, I'm quite sure the problem is on the side of iOS. I tried turning iCloud on and off, removing a calendar on the iPhone and putting it back, all to no avail. I can see in the server logs that the iPhone is communicating with the server so basic communication seems OK.

I've been fighting with iCal server for years now. Many updates, on the server as well as on the iPhone break things in unexpected ways forcing me to search for weeks to find yet another workaround.

Has anyone seen this behaviour, and more important, found a solution?

Apple: You advertise things just work (as they should), but with ical server and its clients you seem not just to have dropped the ball, but lost it all together. It is high time to get your act together here.

We had exactly this problem with the iPhone6 and Yosemite - but followed the Prof's advice and problem was immediately solved. Thanks so much!

I have solved it with the help of Apple Support:

    Procedure:

On your iOS8 iPhone, go to Settings / iCloud

Scroll down to the Contacts and Calendars switches.

Switch them off and back on (you can keep you data in your iPhone, don't select delete).

Once this is done, the sync functions have become fully two-way operational again:

From Yosemite to iOS8 (the one that failed)

    From iOS8 to Yosemity

    Good luck

This worked in my case (logging completely out of iCloud and then logging back in).

Disconnecting iCloud Drive, deleting calendars and restoring, etc. did not.

    Thank you, Professorghee.

This is the manual refresh option I couldn't find on my own. Thanks! My problem was unpredictably slow updates to my iPhone from my iCloud calendar. Doing a manual update is not ideal, but it solves my problem.

Wow jcollierkc, that's a lot of stuff to go through to try to solve the problem. New Apple ID, reset, and restore all devices! Please don't get me started on Apple ID's!

I had similar problems. Created new events in iCal on my iPhone with the entries going into my iCloud calendar. I only use one, again, I only use one Apple ID. Why would I want a second or third or fourth as I want everything to communicate with each other and all purchases on one Apple ID. The new entries wouldn't appear when I looked at iCal on my iPad or MacBook Pro. I should have known when something breaks it's usually the result of a change. What did I change as I use to get all events immediately visible across all devices. Thanks to this forum........oh yeah, I had recently enabled an inferior solution called ICLOUD DRIVE on my MacBook Pro. I deactivated it immediately and all calendar items sync as it used to work!

Apple, I love your hardware but the software is starting to show more and more cracks! Time to start chopping some heads.

    iPhone 5 - iOS 8

    iPad 2 - iOS 8

MacBook Pro 13" 2011 - OS X 10.10 Yosemite (poorest upgrade in years).

I'm expecting major QA & testing improvements for next rollout. What would I prefer......a delay in release and lesser advertised functionality versus something that actually works....I'll take the latter everyday. Going bleeding edge days are over for me....thanks for the headaches Apple.

My issue was identical in every way. Some of these steps may have had no effect but I can't be sure so just listing all of the steps I did.

I solved it by re-entering apple id password into icloud settings. Open callendar. Click on callendars. Refresh. Click hide all callendars. Fully quit settings and callandar using app switcher. Rebooted the device. On finishing the bootup I noticed the network activity spinner in the ios status bar spinning for a long time. Open callendar. Clicked on callendars. Turn all callendars on.

Unfortunatly because there were some changes made to events (my iphone was now out of date) the sync merged. So I had to delete the out of date ones synced over from my ios 8 iphone 6 callendars that wouldn't sync for the last few months. All is working now in both directions.

Thanks! I have a iPhone 4 with iOS 8.1.3 it wouldn't sync with my mac calendar.  Turning off iCould in settings for calendars did the trick!
