Q: Cannot Install on Yosemite

I have a legitimately purchased copy of ARD v3.2.0 on disc. I have the updaters all the way up to 3.7.1. I recently reformatted my HDD and installed Yosemite in place of Lion.

I was able to install 3.2.0 but it will not run on Yosemite. The App Store finds no updates. I was able to baby step my way as high as 3.5 but it will not go any further. I get the error that a newer version is already installed on my disk. I'm guessing this is because Yosemite comes with newer preinstalled files for the client piece (3.8.2 I think??).

If I cant find any updates in the app store, how am I supposed to use this software? I'm not paying $80 for a new version from the App store when our company already has a licensed copy. Please do not recommend using something like TeamViewer - our company doesn't allow it and I use ARD to push packages out to users macs.

I think you need to install it on a previous OS X release (10.9), upgrade it in the app store or with the downloadable updates to 3.7.2(or3?), and then upgrade to Yosemite.  When you run the app store updater in Yosemite it will then add Remote desktop to your app store account so in future you wouldn't have that issue.

I have an iMac 27  I purchased in 2010.  In that time several platforms have changed, and I am now on 10.10.2 Yosemite.  I have discovered that with each update, new drivers need to be updated for programs as my printer, Adobe applications and so forth.  It is time consuming, but once upgraded the applications are working fine.  This last week I couldn't get any applications to respond, especially mail.  My Wacom Board, and Keyboard weren't functioning properly.  I had to think hard about it, as I am a trouble-shooter!  It took a few days, and like an idiot, the solution was soo simple.  I had placed too many USB ports into an external USB hub port. Ultimately, it was the external hub that was defective, and not my iMac!  I thought it was Yosemite!

    PHEW!
