Q: Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2014 CPU Overheating Immediately

Hi, Berk

Macbook pro retina mid 2014(Macbook pro 11,2)

i7 4770HQ 2.2Ghz, Intel Iris Pro 5200, and 16gb ram

is overheating while I'm using zbrush, after effects, cinema 4d etc. CPU cores temps increasing 95-100C(212F) in 5-10 seconds.(Intel i7 4770HQ Max temp. 100C)

When I stop working process cpu temps decreasing normally in 5-10 seconds.

When I try this process, on iMac 2011(512mb intel i5 3.2 1. generation) , not overheating.

Is that normal for i7 4770HQ & Intel Iris pro?

Or there is a big problem?

Thank You.

Best Regards.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities

It is normal that your Mac gets hot by using that kind of applications, but not in only 5 seconds. That's impossible.

Try running Apple Diagnostics in your Mac -> OS X Yosemite: Use Apple Diagnostics or Apple Hardware Test If you get an error, tell us. There may be a damaged fan sensor.

I suspect that your MBP is still in the warranty period.  Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians check it.

    Ciao.

When i press and hold D,opening Internet Data Recovery(I think wireless diagnostics).

I Don't start apple diagnostics, I think fan sensor is working correctly because macbook pro surface is too hot.

    Please Help for Apple diagnostics?

See if OPTION + D at startup will start Hardware Diagnostics.

You may have to ship your MBP to Apple if there is not a nearby service facility.  If you contact Apple. they will send you a shipping box.

    Ciao.

    Hello there,

I would definitely agree with some of them those who have answered your questions. There are some applications which do not act the same way on an imac and on a macbook. As your macbook is cooling down to a more normal temperature after it did heat this means your fan is working. I would recommend you uninstall any fan control app if you have installed and check whether if you have the same problem. If it does I would suggest you run the in built system diagnostic by holding the D key after you hear the chime. It's normal to see Internet recovery what it's trying to do is connect to Apple server if you need later on. Don't worry it won't take long. Run the diagnostic and see if there is any code. If you do relate the code you got with this articleApple Diagnostics Reference codes

As you have told you don't have any apple store nearby what you can do is reinstall your current os x and see if it helps if not give it a last try by updating it the the last version of the current os x.

    Hope this helps,

    Thank you

You want to start the hardware test: read above, the start screen InternetRecovery says "connect to WiFi", connect by choosing a network and typing the password of that network, then it tells you that it is connecting to InternetRecovery, at that moment give a short press on the Power button and see: immediately the AppleHardwareTest appears ! It starts testing, it takes a very long time so do not check the extended testing mark.

I completed hardware test: Error code: -2002D

but I didn't find 2002D in references code list?

What is 2002D? I didn't find any information online.

I try smc reset & pram reset too many times, but everything same.

    Thank you...

I could not find it, but Apple says that values between 1000 and 4000 are not considered faulty

Apple also says to use Apple Diagnostics instead of Apple Hardware Test for all macbookpros after July 2013:

Using Apple Diagnostics - Apple Support

Perhaps you should try that also.

Hardware test and diagnostics test are same. I try it. But don't find any info for error code 2002D.

problem is Apple design. You have a laptop with limited cooling options, and a desktop grade processor. I have rMBP 2011, and i have battled with it for a long time.

CPU Overheat due to lack of proper cooling #1 issue (caused by DESKTOP GRADE i5/i7 processors)

    CPU Throttling - #2 issue

what you can do is put your Laptop next to Air Conditioning outlet, or buy/DIY a fan system, that will go under your laptop and remove excess heat. It is a shame that people have these amazing machines but cannot use them to their full capacity, simply because the design doesn't allow for that to happen. Seems like apple designers dont give a **** about people actually being able to use their macbooks, all they care is to just put the strongest CPU in the laptop so they can sell..
