Q: Wi-Fi Keeps Disconnecting in 10.8

Very, very, very tired of this "glitch" or whatever it is. As long as something is streaming, no connection problem.

However, we did fix the problem on my husband's laptop - we bought a new "after market" wifi card. No. More. Problems. Whatsoever. And very easy to install.

Is this an issue with the Apple AirPort card itself?

I don't know, but as inexpensive as the wifi cards are, I'm going to try a new card for my iMac. Worth a shot.

Try what I said to do, it worked for alot of other users any questions about my thing just ask me (I was immature when I wrote it)

I did try what you suggested - no go, still dropping my wifi like crazy (I know this thread concerns 10.8, but I updated to Mavericks a few weeks ago and I'm STILL having this issue - hubs Mac Book is still at 10.8).

My work-around has been to keep iTunes Radio running all day - no disconnects that way. But I hate doing that. I'm a graphic designer and have InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat Pro open at all times during the day and don't like having another program open needlessly.

I'll be purchasing a new wifi card, but NOT an Apple AirPort card!

I have a Macbook Pro, Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013,  i had a lot of wi-fi problems, and the only workaround was disconnect/reconnect.  I used the setting based on Applepro72's comment, and the problem solved! Thanks Applepro, you should charge a huge amount to Apple support! :-)

To fix the WIFI problem, please proceed in these steps until is fixed.

1. Check if you have problems with another router. Maybe at the library, at a Starbucks, etc. If you are not having problems, then it is probalby related with your router.
2. Reseting the PROM ( http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379 ) and SMC ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 ). If does not work try the next one.

Note: In steps 3 and 4 you are dealing with hardware problems. An alternative to them is to bring the computer to the Apple Store. These steps can ruin your laptops if you are not good with working with circuits boards. A new airport card is less than the $100 that Apple would ask you but if you break your laptop you have a more than $1,000 loss. Attempt these steps at your own risk.

I had this issue as well with my macbook pro connecting to an airport express.  In the airport express I enabled the 5 GHz wifi and connected to that and that seems to have fixed the problem for me.  All of my other devices have always worked fine so it is definitely so quirky issue with the macbookpros, but the 5GHz signal seemed to fix the problem for me.

This helped me deal with disconnection issues in my wifi at work which apparently has many networks configured for the same channels.  We are not allowed to change router settings.  But changing the MTU (which BTW stands for maximum transmission unit) helped.
