Q: Renaming dropped pins mac maps yosemite

It's never been easy to rename dropped pins in any version of the program, but now with Yosemite it seems to have become literally impossible. I dropped a pin on a relative's house; I saved it to favourites; but it's still just a DP. I can't do that more than once, or I will have no way of searching or arranging the various locations. So, how do you edit that tag, and rename the dropped pin? There are literally NO CLUES in the interface or in any of the menus, and the procedure that used to work (save as bookmark) has gone, sacrificed no doubt to the exigencies of the hordes of finger-tapping cell-phone users' interface. If anyone has figured this out, please post and let the rest of us know. It would be much appreciated.

A pin must be converted to a bookmark in order to give it a name. After dropping the pin, click it and a banner will appear. Click the Info symbol, and in the inspection window that opens, click Add Bookmark.

Now click the Bookmarks button in the toolbar of the Maps window, which looks like an open book. A window drops down, with a search box and an Edit button. Click that button and the saved bookmarks will become editable. Make your changes, then click outside the Bookmarks window to close it.

Here's the problem: none of that stuff works in Yosemite. If I click on the info button, I get

    Screenshot 2015-04-03 18.57.06.png

that is, nothing about bookmarks there, just add to contacts, as if I were using an iPhone. If I right-click on the info button, all I get is a list of ways I can share the non-information, plus another "add to contacts" or "delete from favourites."

Okay, just figured it out; apologies for whining. In Yosemite, you have to click on the search bar to see your favourites; click on favourites and you get a list; down in the bottom right there is an edit button. Take it from there.

It's now "Add to Favorites" but it appears you have already set it as a Favorite.

To get to Favorites, click in the address field.

    Select Favorites.

    Click the Edit button.

Click on the name of the Favorite you made. The address is the default name.

And, I see you've figured it out.

These instructions are for Yosemite. The procedure I posted earlier was for Mavericks.

A pin must be converted to a bookmark in order to give it a name. After dropping the pin, a banner will appear. Click the Info symbol, and in the inspection window that opens, click Add to Favorites.

Now click the magnifying-glass icon in the search box of the Maps window. A menu will drop down. Select Favorites and then click the Edit button. The saved bookmarks will become editable. Make your changes, then click Done and click outside the menu to close it.

    You are correct.

It is one of the most unintuitive sequences I have ever seen, especially on any Apple product.

Click on the Search bar, then on "Favorites" (the one that looks like a heading, not something to click), then at the bottom (away from everything) is a button labeled "Edit" where you can edit anything in that list. What part in any of that sequence is intuitive?

Clicking on the "I" in the banner to get info, that's would have made sense. FROM THERE you should be able to edit the info as well as via the search bar.

I've wasted more time clicking on icons that do nothing.

They are doing more and more MS-like hidden right-clicks rather than being obvious. Good GUI is something a 5 year old could navigate. I have always liked Macs because I could boast to my friends that it is the same as MS, but my Mac requires fewer mouse clicks. I can't say that any more.

The Apple GUI has ventured way too far from its original concept of being simple.

The king has died, the magic is gone, and Camelot has become just another crumbling ancient castle on a tourist Google (not Apple) map; a tale we can tell our grandchildren of a land with magical devices, nearly mind-reading user interfaces, with spectacular announcements and major technology advancements.

    They won't believe us.

Okay after adding the pin to favorites and going into the favorites and editing it and pressing "done". the pin still comes up on the map as 'dropped pin'. in the favorite list it shows the name I named it. but on the map it still says dropped pin. This is weak. Any help?
