Q: iPhoto 9.6 shows duplicate photos present on iPhone

When I plug my iPhone in and iPhoto 9.6 opens, it now displays each photo on the device twice. So for all pictures in Already Imported and all under New Photos, there are two copies that are shown. If they are selected and imported, there are then two copies of each picture that are imported. The duplicates do not show up in the photo roll on the phone. This began yesterday, without any changes to iOS, OS X or iPhoto software. Versions are: iOS 8.1, iPhoto 9.6, OS X 10.10. I have tried trashing the iPod Photo Cache without success. Any suggestions?

While, it's possible that having Photostream on will produce duplicates, that is not the problem Ive been having.  I always have Photostream off, yet I was getting duplicates when importing to iPhoto.  Actually, this hasn't happened now for a month or so.  I'm not sure if the problem is gone or if I'm doing something different.  If/when I saw duplicates in iPhoto after connecting my iPhone, I would simply unmount the iPhone by clicking on the iPhone eject icon and then disconnect my iPhone and then reconnect my iPhone.  That was a workaround that worked, but like I said, I haven't had to use it for the last few weeks.

As stated, the problem went away after doing the iPhoto Unmount trick, however the problem returned today, and I needed to do the Unmount again, unplug the iPhone and plug it back in.

Fingers crossed the new Photos app won't suffer from this.

Rebooting my phone fixed this for me too.
