Q: HD Movie Purchased. SD Downloaded.

I purchased The Box Trolls (2014) in 1080p HD, but it downloaded as 720p SD. All my settings are for 1080p HD downloads. I rented the film first and that downloaded the HD version, but when I clicked "Purchase", a 1.47 GB version downloaded, which is of obvious inferior quality. What am I missing?

    Hi richiesauls,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like you wanted to download 1080p but downloaded 720p. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

About HD videos in iTunes - Apple Support

By default, when you buy HD content from iTunes, it downloads and plays content in 720p. If you want to download and play content in 1080p, change your settings:

    1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes.
    2. On a Mac: From the menu bar, choose iTunes > Preferences > Store.
On a PC: Choose Edit > Preferences > Store.
    3. Next to "When downloading High Definition videos, prefer," set your preference to 1080p.
    4. Click OK.

Your computer will then download in 1080p, when the format is available.
