Q: Can't burn 4.32GB to one 8.5GB DVD+R DL disk
Here are my computer specs:
Mac Pro1,1
Mac OS X 10.7.5
2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor
Optiarc DVD RW AD-7170A
Disk burning software:
Toast 8 Titanium 8.0.5
Blank disks:
Verbatim DVD+R DL
8.5GB, 8x
Question:
I'm trying to burn a folder with 4.64GB of data in it (as seen in the Finder Window). When I drag that folder to the Toast window, it tells me it's 4.32GB of data. I assume there's some sort of compression or something going on. It worked fine when I was using single layer disks with 4.7GB capacity, but I ran out of those and now when I put in one of the DL disks, it's telling me my 4.32GB of data will span over 4 dual layer DVDs!! Why would it take 4x's the space (8x's if you consider they are dual layer and not single!) to burn the same amount of data? If anything, I expected the disk to only be half full! I'm making sure DVD-DL is selected in the drop down menu near the burn button. What am I doing wrong?
