Q: Deleting Old Email Addresses From Cache?

Two of my contacts have changed there email addresses, and I updated it in contacts, however as I begin to type there email in the "To" section I get a list of emails addresses popping up including the ones I deleted from my contacts.  I assume they are coming from some kind of cache, but have not found a way to delete those emails that pop up.  It's a nice feature, but if the emails are not correct it really does not help.

Jumping in late I know but I've had this same issue for a long time. I have a MBP, iPad, iPhone, and iCloud. I sync all devices via the cloud.

I've reset all devices, reformatted the MBP. Also deleted ALL backup files for the iOS devices... started fresh with the exception of my Apple ID.  Once the devices sync, all my old recent email addresses return... Some for years ago return.

So I started a totally new Apple ID and account. I had exported my contacts from my mac so I wouldn't have to retire them all.  All was well until I imported my contacts.. All the recent email addresses returned again.  I tried deleting all the address book files on my mac which didn't

To test that this was my contact import, I cleared all devices, setup another Apple ID and manually entered some of my contacts. Seemed to work... but then I lost all my apps from my original Apple ID.

So I started over and but did not turn on iCloud for contacts. That worked too but then it became a pain to make sure I sync'd so... I turned on iCloud and now had all my recent addresses back..

I then went and deleted each one of the recent addresses and will wait for apple to fix this..

    Very frustrating

This is ABSOLUTELY the way to do it, at least on my laptop.  All other suggestions assume that you're trying to delete an address that you have in Contacts that is no longer valid.  Window --> Previous Recipients will list those addresses you misspelled and the darn things keep showing up after you've corrected your mistake.  Thank you for making this so simple!

I have the same problem here and found no solution. It seems that the only solution is to completely reset the iPad... There must be a simpler alternative.

    Hello!

Guess what. I've tried that, and it still appears in that list, no matter how many times I've deleted it.

Agreed, it's really annoying. What's even worse is that when I type in someone's name to email from iPhone, it suggests all the combinations of people I've previously cc'd with that person, so finding the person in isolation is time consuming, This is in addition to deleting unwanted previous recipients. There should be a simple delete all previous recipients as there is in OSX Mail. Inspectorgg is typical of some arrogant people who don't like to admit Apple has any faults and probably only uses his kit for gaming and doesn't understand practical issues.

I hope they do too, I have 9.1 beta and it's gone, I bet they will because I have noticed betas tend to leave out some features.

I'm having the same problem with iOS9 on both an iPhone 4S and an iPhone 5.  Annoying obsolete addresses keep popping up and there's no longer a way to get rid of them.  How ridiculous!

I'm really disappointed that iOS9 would remove such a needed feature.  It's one thing to add useful features but quite another to eliminate useful features!

I'm certainly going to warn my friends of this problem in iOS9 and suggest they stay FAR AWAY!

    Hi Mowaii

We are discussing IOS mail not OSX. Not everyone uses a Mac and OSX mail (yet! ) hence the disappearance of the remove option is a bore.

    Thanks

    P

I could delete old contact info in iOS8, but iOS9 removed this capability for some, unknown, reason.  I'm now on i)S9.0.2 and it''s still broken.

Thanks...this allowed me to select a whole group and delete all at once...much more efficient than one at a time.

How did you delete all at once?

Once you go into window and see "Previous Recipients", you can use the Shift key to select a range using the mouse.   I opened up that window and was surprised that I had email addresses from 2011 in the list...so I deleted them all.
