Q: Possible To Merge Two Photos for Mac Libraries?

I have massive iPhoto library, which is too big to store in my 5GB of iCloud storage space, using the new Photos for Mac app.

So I was thinking, having migrated my iPhoto library to the new Photos for Mac app, it might be a clever idea to create a second (totally new, blank) Photos for Mac library, enable iCloud Photo Library in it, and start from scratch using that.

My question is, if in the future I want to merge the two Photos for Mac libraries together, is that actually possible?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2010) 12GB RAM

OK, thanks.

So maybe in the future, Fat Cat Software (who make iPhoto Library Manager) might make Photos for Mac Library Manager.

Do you think it's wise to have two libraries, so that you can start using Photos for Mac and iCloud Photo Library from scratch, with a new/blank library?

Frankly, I have no idea. My 2 cents is that Photos.app has very little to offer me. I maintain library for testing purposes and use Lightroom now.

Are you certain?

From Get started with Photos for OS X - Apple Support

"If you change your System Photo Library, the contents of this new library will be merged with the contents already in iCloud."

But presumably this merge is two-way i.e. the contents already in iCloud will then be merged into the new System Photo Library? It's not clear, but that's how I understand it.

In any case, http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/comments/announcing_powerphotos may well offer library merging in a post 1.0 release.
