It sounds as though you have the icon for the Console application in your Dock:

Console is an application included with OS X for viewing log files.

Thanks. Yes this is for the console in finder. What would cause the warning icon for console to appear on the dock and what needs to be done to correct this issue?

It isn't really a "warning icon," it's just an application icon, for which Apple (perhaps unfortunately) chose an image containing the word "Warning."

If you, for example, chose in a dialog to view a crash report, the system might have launched Console to view the log. It does not indicate an issue that needs correcting, but if you want it off the Dock, you probably just have to Quit Console. If that doesn't work, Control click the Dock icon and select Options > Remove from Dock.
