Q: I have installed the new version of FCP 10.2 on my iMac and MBA and both instalments are crashing on launch. I have tried deleting preferences and have reinstalled FCPX on both machines. Any idea what the problem may be and how to resolve it?

AAfter you trash the preferences are you making a new library? Did you disable all third party plugins?

Thank you for the quick reply.
I have tried making a new library yes. Result was immediate crash.
As for disabling third party plugins, no I haven't. Not quite sure how to do that from outside of the app with the exception of FXFactory which I will try.

MMost third party plugins are in Motion Templates in the Movies folder.

I have removed all third party plugins but regretfully, it didn't resolve the issue.

I am also experiencing this crash on login - fresh install of 10.10.3 and FCP 10.2 on a MacPro 2013 8-core 64GB ram. This is an excerpt from the reoccurring crash report:

It doesn't help resolve the issue, but it's kinda reassuring to know that this is potentially a common issue and not just pertaining to my setup. For what it's worth, it seems that we share the same common problem. Below is the same excerpt from my crash report.

I had the same crash type as Pajero Fan and Kidago, except my machine is a iMac mid-2011 12GB RAM, AMD Radeon 6770M, Yosemite 10.10.3 fresh install and FCP 10.2. My crash was very similar to the AMDRadeon but mine is with the AMDRadeonX3000GLDriver.bundle.

    Crashed Thread:        4  Dispatch queue: NSOperationQueue 0x600000c26840 :: NSOperation 0x600000a593e0 (QOS: USER_INITIATED)

I created a new user account, and FCP 10.2 launched and works fine. However, using 3D Text gives an FCP warning that my hardware is not capable of doing 3D text.

Back as my original user account, I did a Repair permissions and found a TON of group/user issues such as,

User differs on “System/Library/Extensions/AMDRadeonX3000GLDriver.bundle/Contents/PkgInfo”; should be 0; user is 502.

Group differs on “System/Library/Extensions/AMDRadeonX3000GLDriver.bundle/Contents/PkgInfo”; should be 0; group is 20.

(BTW, user 502 is the UNIX name for the new user account I created.)

    That DIDN'T fix it.

Using Find Any File I was able to delete the "Layouts" folder, and FCP launches ok, but any attempt to start a new project, import a file, results in a crash. Maybe related to the 3D text feature.

Same issue here.  Are we all in the OS X Beta Program.  I noticed a lot of us are using 10.3.   Is that the issue?

I had the exact same problem.  FCP launched and ran fine under an alternate user but not my main user configuration.  After using the demo version of Digital Rebellion's Pro Maintenance Tools I found out that the crashes were font related.  I used "font book" and restored the original fonts - thus deleting any corrupt or incompatible font.  In Font Book under the "file" menu just select "Restore Standard Fonts".  Hope this helps.  Now everything works as it should.

chrisritchie!!!!!   That was it.    I'll have to check out Digital Rebellion's Pro Maintenance Tools if it help figure that out.  Now to find the offending font!!!  Arghh!!!

Awesome!!  I didn't really have any "important" extra fonts so I just deleted them all.  I'll re-install as I need them.

Most likely you don't need to alter anything in font book. Just delete the possibly corrupt font cache.

To do so, open Terminal.app (in Utilities inside Applications) and use these commands.

    atsutil databases -removeUser

This will remove the current user's font cache.

If you want to delete the font cache for all users, use this command followed by giving your admin password:

    sudo atsutil databases -remove

The password won't show up but will be accepted.

    Now stop the ATS server:

    atsutil server -shutdown

    Then restart it:

    atsutil server -ping

Quit and restart all running applications in order to avoid font confusion or make a system restart.

Now Final Cut should run just fine and all your fonts should be available.

@Christiche - Thank you. That has certainly remedied my FCPX on my MacBook Air. I haven't tried my iMac, but can't see why it won't work on that machine also! I may try Bambule's suggestion on my iMac in order to preserve my fonts on past projects.

Thank you for this suggestion! I will try this on my iMac later today. I am in Japan and Apple are rather notorious for the poor selection of fonts for the Japanese language so if I can keep my installed fonts, this solution is fantastic!
