Q: After Yosemite 10.10.3 Safari Can't Find Server

Just upgraded to 10.10.3 and now Safari can't find server.

I have a late 2013 MacBook Air.

My internet connection works.

I have cleared history and cache.

I have changed the DNS to openDNS.

I have Reset Permissions.

Still the same issue.

Rebooted numerous times.

No idea what to do next.

Any suggestions. really irritating.

Thanks, Headgame

Maybe it is time to take a more straightforward look at exactly what you have installed. I wrote a little diagnostic program to help show what might be causing these problems. Download EtreCheck from http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck, run it, and paste the results here. EtreCheck is perfectly safe to run, does not ask for your password to install, and is signed with my Apple Developer ID.

Disclaimer: Although EtreCheck is free, there are other links on my site that could give me some form of compensation, financial or otherwise.

    Hi etresoft,

Sorry about my delay in responding to your offer of assistance.

However I have solved my problem the old fashioned way. I stopped using Safari and am using Firefox.

Everything is functioning just fine, Stress level is way down.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help me.

And to Apple - please make Safari behave better with how users actually use their Macs. Chrome, Opera, Tor and Firefox all play nice with OS X 10.10.3.

    Cheers, Headgame

Same problem here. After updating to 10.10.3, Safari often can't find the server for some reason. When I restart the MBP, it all works fine again for a day or so, and then the problems start again. Chrome works fine though, so it's Safari which is to blame.

    Apple, please solve this asap.

Similar problem here.  After updating to 10.10.3 Safari can't find any local websites (eg localhost and other sites I have vhosted).

Firefox and Chrome all work fine, but Safari can't find the server.  BTW it took me a while to get Apache working on Yosemite, but it is working as shown by the other browsers.

I went through a bunch of these diagnostics but I'm pretty clean with my system, ie no Safari extensions loaded.  Plugins disabled.  Still not working.

As you can see from the message below, "Safari can't find the server 'localhost'" (nothing to do with the actual file reference not being found, nor is it a security issue)

Same problem here. Seems it's related to IPV6. In System Preferences -> Network I have IPV6 set to automatic. By editing /etc/hosts and commenting out "::1             localhost" I am now able to see my localhost sites in Safari.
