Q: copy my photo library to another computer

how can I copy my photo library from my iMac to my MacBook Pro?  Both machines are using the latest OSX 10..10.3 and I've uploaded my iMac library to my iCloud account.  Should it automatically download to my MacBook?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1), 13"

It will download on your other account, but not everything will sync.

See this document:  Use Photos and iCloud Photo Library on multiple Mac computers - Apple Support

For example, Faces will not sync, so if you invested a lot of work into faces, you might prefer to copy the library to a portable drive and transfer it directly.

Also, referenced photos will not upload, only photos that are stored inside the Aperture library.

You will have to transfer referenced photos manually and reconnect them or consolidate them into the library before copying the library over on a portable drive.

These items are available only on the Mac where you created them:

    • Books, cards, and calendars
    • Slideshows
    • Keyword shortcuts
    • Unused keywords
    • Last imported album (this album contains photos you most recently imported on a specific Mac)
    • Faces tiles and Faces data

Your photos or videos must be stored inside the Photos library to be accessible through iCloud Photo Library.
