Apr 14, 2015 5:44 AM in response to miaowsoftkittayby Loner T,There are two different types of headphone jacks. TRS and TRRS. The Apple BC/Windows driver does not recognize TRRS jacks.

Apr 14, 2015 3:30 PM in response to miaowsoftkittayby Loner T,What year model is your Mac? If you look at the Mac and look at the jack where you plug-in your headset, do you see a faint read light? Avoid directly looking at it, it is an Optical laser.

Apr 14, 2015 4:10 PM in response to Loner Tby Loner T,Your headphone port is a combined analog/optical port. The faint red-light indicates that the microswitch which controls the analog v optical output is stuck.
1. You can try a SMC reset - Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support
2. You can plug the headphone jack gently a couple of times, which should release the microswitch, and the red light should turn off.
3. Do you get audio from your internal speakers? Please also see Troubleshooting issues with no audio from built-in speakers on Macs - Apple Support. This has the bit about the red light.
- If the Internal Speakers option does not appear in the Output tab and your computer is not a Mac Pro, check that Digital Out is present as in the image below:

- Confirm again that all external audio devices and cables have been removed.
- Check to see if a red light is lit in the line-out port. If so, your Apple computer may need service.
- If you do not see a red light, proceed to step 5.
- If the Internal Speakers option does not appear in the Output tab and your computer is not a Mac Pro, check that Digital Out is present as in the image below:

Apr 14, 2015 4:22 PM in response to Loner Tby miaowsoftkittay,i think maybe i need to clarify.
Everything is still working fine on my iOS, it has just stopped working on windows.
I am going to do an SMC reset right now to see if that fixes things
-
Apr 14, 2015 4:39 PM in response to Loner Tby miaowsoftkittay,so i did the SMC reset with no results.
What i noticed was:
a) i logged back onto iOS and the red light is non-existent, the switch therefore seems to be working (as the mic switches from internal and external when i plug in my headset)
b) i then came back to windows and the red light is on.
I am almost certain the last time i used windows there were updates installed and im beginning to think one of them is forcing the microswitch into the permanent "red light" state.

Apr 14, 2015 8:18 PM in response to miaowsoftkittayby Loner T,★HelpfulIf the red light comes on only in Windows, but is off in OSX, the driver that controls the port has a registry key that tells it to turn it on.

Apr 14, 2015 5:09 PM in response to miaowsoftkittayby Loner T,In Device Manager for your Sound devices, pick the device that provides S/PDIF (or TOSlink) connectivity. Right-click on the device, and click on Properties. You will have to look for the Device Identifier. Copy the Device Identifier to a Notepad note. Run Regedit32 (or Regedit) and look for this key in Registry. There should be setting for the output that you should check.

Apr 14, 2015 5:34 PM in response to Loner Tby miaowsoftkittay,so i tried to follow your instructions above, i found the device providing S/PDIF and clicked properties. There was no "device identifier" option in the details tab, only "matching device id", so i tried to use that instead, but using regscanner it leads me to the above, so im thinking ive used the wrong property?
The other properties starting with Device are:
device description
device instance path (which i also tried to use in regscanner)
device categories
device stack

Apr 14, 2015 8:26 PM in response to miaowsoftkittayby Loner T,Do you have any unknown devices? Did you reboot after the driver was re-installed? Do the Cirrus devices show up in Device Manager after reboot?
