Q: How can I delete a page in a PDF with Maverick's Preview 7.0?

I can't seem to delete a separate page in a PDF using Maverick's Preview 7.0.

I can go get the sidebar to appear by going the View menu and clicking on "Table of Contents."  I see the separate pages listed there, but when I click on an individual page, "delete" is grayed-out in the Edit menu and pressing on the delete key in the keyboard alone or in combination with option or command keys does nothing.

Please help.

    Csound1

I installed as the Delta app.

I just tried it again.  Edit>Delete does show as a menu option, but nothing happens when I click on Delete despite the fact that I have a thumbnail highlighted.  HOWEVER, I just had a thought and tried it and it worked.

I clicked on the "View" box, and instead of clicking "thumbnails", I instead clicked on "contact sheet."  When I did that, instead of thumbnails in the sidebar and the full page showing in the primary window, the screen turns into a nothing but thumbnails.  When I did that, I could click on a page, click Edit>Delete, and the page would delete.

Thanks for poking around on this.  It caused me to get to a solution.  I also think it should work in thumbnails view, but a workaround is better than it not working at all.

Well that helps, but I will still urge you to install the Combo update.

My son has been recommending the same thing.  With Yosemite due out any week now, I'll probably wait.  But perhaps I'll do the combo update with Yosemite instead of doing the delta update.

    Thanks for the help!

That won't be possible, Yosemite won't appear as an update. It will be a new system entirely. Once Yosemite is installed and starts getting updated it will follow the delta/combo pattern.

Just use the Delete button. It will take a couple of seconds to delete it but it will work.

To get Thumbnail option just click on the icon at the top left corner which looks like a double page and you will get all the options there.

Try File -> Duplicate and repeat the process on the new copy. It should work.

You can delete pages only if your pdf document is not locked. The delete button is disable when the document is locked. You can find ways to unblock it online.

Is this security settings on your PDF.

I had this problem and I exported the PDF to a new file and then all was fine.

CMD + i  the problem doc and see if there is security listed.

    The Answer is:

You may not perform the edits (such as deleting pages) until AFTER you have saved the scanned document to your computer.

Once saved. Close the document, open it again and Preview will allow you to make changes. (Delete pages etc.)

    No Purchase required.

In El Capitan's Preview, one can simply select a thumbnail in Preview, and hit backspace (delete) to remove the PDF page. Does this work in Mavericks?
