Apr 10, 2015 9:20 AM in response to mrjcleaverby Old Toad,What version of iPhoto do you currently have?
The only one that will run with 10.10.3 is iPhoto 9.6.1.
I tried the upgrader - it completed but didn't change the error message after running it.
Then do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
2 - apply Option #4, Rebuild Database.

Try to uninstall iPhoto on mac, than download iPhoto from Mac App Store (Category Purchases).
Unfortunately, that doesn't work. iPhoto is in the list sure enough, but the UPDATE button just greys out if you click it.

Apr 12, 2015 8:01 PM in response to lescornwellby lamwaihen,I have iPhoto (Feb 23, 2014) in Purchases with INSTALL button. I clicked the button and downloaded the ~1.14GB package, now iPhoto is back!

Apr 15, 2015 10:15 AM in response to turingtest2by mrmatthew,This didn't work for me, I tried it and it didn't help. I too have the problem that I've updated to 10.10.3 and I can't launch iPhoto, which is grayed out and is version 9.6. I tried going into the App Store and clicking Update, it just spun but didn't do anything. I also tried deleting iPhoto and then going into the App Store and clicking on Purchases, there was no way to Download the app, just a button saying Update and when I clicked it nothing happened.
Please please please someone help! I want my iPhoto! Really bummed with the new Photos app -- it's missing Events which was my most important, always-use organization feature, SO much better than albums.

Apr 15, 2015 10:50 AM in response to mrmatthewby lescornwell,I hope you can get things fixed.
In the end, you (just like alll the rest of us) will have to switch to Photos which currently is less 'powerful' or contains fewer features than iPhoto (not even talking about Aperture, the features of which are entirely lacking).
Besides Events (I would like that, but it's not that necessary), has anyone found how to correct a horizon?
It would also be great if the filename could be displayed. Only when it's changed from its original (say IMG_1234.jpg) and processed in Lightroom to, say, IMG_1234-processed-LR5.jpg and reimported into Photos is the filename shown. I know I can "Get Info", but I want to see the filename, just to make sure I'm only dealing with JPG files; the RAW files follow a different route.
I'm still learning, but if anyone could point me to a decent forum where I can learn a bit more, I would be grateful...

Not in front of the Mac just now, but with luck you should be able to make a smart album that only contains JPG images, and another for RAW. Opening the Get Info window will show the filename of a selected file. You can leave it open as you select different images.

Apr 15, 2015 11:31 AM in response to mrmatthewby mrmatthew,Okay, I figured it out: I had to delete every last trace of the old iPhoto app off my hard drive -- including aliases! Then, I was able to download the new version of iPhoto.

It's part of the crop tool.

Apr 15, 2015 1:53 PM in response to Terence Devlinby lescornwell,Thanks, Terence, now I'm back in business, and I can at least straighten my horizons!
As regards filename, tt2: I'll try that out tomorrow, but isn't that rather complicated for something so simple?
Now, in iPhoto as well, one had to use the Get Info to discern between RAW and jpg.
I'm afraid I'm highjacking the wrong topic for this kind of question. Let's just refrase: is anyone pleased with this new development: Photos is iPhoto, but not quite as good (and you'll have trouble -as this topic really is about- to hold onto iPhoto)?
-
Apr 15, 2015 3:10 PM in response to lescornwellby Terence Devlin,it doesn't matter for the purposes of this forum if anyone is pleased or not. It's not what this space is for, as explained in the terms of use. But we can clear up one thing: Photos is not iPhoto. It's an entirely new app, with some of the same capabilities but also some entirely new ones (iCloud Library), and an entirely new organisational paradigm (Moments not Events). Don't expect it to be iPhoto. You're wasting your time. Either you find the app to your liking or it fills your needs or it doesn't. If it doesn't, forget about it and search out one that does.
Holding on to iPhoto is perfectly possible at least until the end of 10.10 as the OS. There is no guarantee after that and it may not run in the next OS - 10.11 or whatever it might be called.
