Q: I lost a smart album with hundred of photos because it was conditioned on GPS location. How can I recreate the album?

Upgraded from iPhoto to Photos.

In iPhoto I had a smart album with hundreds of photos from a particular GPS location.

After the upgrade to Photos the smart album was gone. I still had the photographs hidden among thousands of others.

Now how do I find the photos based on GPS data and define a smart album to do that?

You can simply search for the name of the location and all the photos taken there will show up, so there seems to be no need for a Smart Album to organize by location.

If you absolutely require the Smart Albums that are not supported in Photos (yet) you can just continue to use iPhoto; your existing library will still be available under a different name, unless you manually deleted it.
