Q: Can't send in Mail as it says gmail is offline.

All was working fine then suddenly this afternoon I stopped being able to send emails. I can receive - but not send. I've followed the Apple Support/Help suggestions but nothing works. I can't seem to change the setting; it stays stuck on Gmail Offline. Have you experienced this and solved it?  If so, please could you advise me?

Try delete the account and set it up again.

My difficulty is that I am 100 per cent untechy and don't know how to do that. Is there a step by step guide that can walk me through it?

Who did the e-mail setup for you previously?

Will be good if you have someone to help.

Have you check the Gmail Outgoing Server settings?

    Try this link: https://www.apple.com/support/mail-settings-lookup/

    -------------------------------------

    To delete account:

    1. Start  > System Preferences.... > Internet Accounts

or start Mail on your dock > Accounts.

    2. Select your Gmail account on the left and click the minus button at the bottom.

    To setup account:

use number 1 above and click the plus button

Make sure you have all the Gmail settings ready,

It was set up by a techy friend who is currently unavailable for a few weeks. Beyond him I don't have anyone who can help - which is why I tried the forum.

I did check the settings but could not get it to move from being offline, despite following instructions given in the apple support section.  It doesn't do what apple says it will do!

I can, of course, try to delete an account but at this stage I am so dim that I don't know what "make sure you have all the Gmail settings ready".  Where are they and how can I have them ready?

I had already looked at the info at that link - it didn't work!  I am really stuck as the suggestions and guidelines just do not do as they say they will.

Type in your full email address in this link below and it will tell you what the Incoming Server (to receive e-mail) and Outgoing Server (to send e-mail) are:

Thanks.  I did that and it said,

Mail settings are not known for your email provider.

Please contact your provider for correct settings.

    I am stuck!

I have done that numerous times. Nothing changes. It continues to say Gmail offline.
