Q: App Store Issue - Cannot Connect to the App Store

Hi,

I am having problems with the App Store, I'll try to be detailed as possible. First, here is a detail about my computer:

  • 2013 Macbook Pro 13, Retina, Intel Iris
  • Yosemite 10.10.3

I have reinstalled the OS X but after the installation the I was having problem with the App Store, see the two images below:

Screen Shot 2015-04-15 at 4.37.57 PM.pngScreen Shot 2015-04-15 at 4.37.41 PM.png

I am logged in to my Apple ID, I can see the Featured, Top Charts, and Categories panels but there is nothing on the Purchases and Updates panels except "Cannot Connect to the App Store". I can access the iTunes and store plus there is an update for the iTunes but again I am stuck with the "Cannot Connect..." panel.

I've browsed the web for solutions, none of them worked. Here is a list of what I have done:

I am inclined to believe this is Apple's side of the issue or could this be a hardware issue? I have no idea at this point and I am exhausted. Hope someone can help me with this.

Cheers.

Mikhail

Had the same problem a couple of minutes ago. Restart Appstore and it should work.

Sorry, what do you mean by restarting the App Store?

Ok, I don't know what the problem could be then. I had problems this morning too, but a restart of appstore fixed it.

I don't have any suggestions since you seem to have tried all the methods you listed in your first post.

Hope someone else can help you.

    Applications
Apr 15, 2015 7:22 AM in response to josemikhail

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

              View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take an action that isn't working the way you expect. Select any lines that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name or email address, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

I apologise it is a bit long - more than a dozen lines. Here are a few lines - when I reopened the App Store and went to the Updates and Purchases:

    • 16/04/2015 8:07:30.000 AM kernel[0]: Over-release of kernel-internal importance assertions for pid 75 (launchservicesd), dropping 1 assertion(s) but task only has 1 remaining (1 external).

Hope these help. Again I apologise for the lengthy lines. And thank you for the assistance.

Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

From the Category list in the lower left corner of the window, select Certificates. In the list of certificates on the right, does any have a name that begins with "VeriSign"?

Next, select My Certificates from the Category list. Any "VeriSign" items now?

In the Category > Certificates, I have a VeriSign certificate.

Please back up all data, then select that certificate and press the delete key. You'll be prompted for your administrator password. Quit Keychain Access and test.

Did the above - deleted the VeriSign certificate and opened App Store, the issue is still there: I still cannot access Purchases and Updates. I did restart the notebook, opened the App Store, still the same.

I'll do a clean install one more time and see if it works. I'll let you know if it fixes the problem or no.

    Cheers.

I am pleasantly surprised, the problem is gone:

    Screen Shot 2015-04-17 at 9.48.21 AM.pngScreen Shot 2015-04-17 at 9.48.30 AM.png

What exactly happened was that: I was ready to give up and do a clean install but this time using a USB Drive. The last clean install I did was through the internet. So while downloading the operating system, I clicked on the Updates and Purchases panels and et voila the stuff showed up. I still do not know what fixed it and if this issue won't spring up again - we'll see but hopefully it will be the last time.

Do you want me to copy part of the Console log here as well? Also, would you know a specific cause of my problem? - so we could close this thread.

Thanks so much for the help. I appreciate it.

    Cheers.

If nothing in this thread works for you try this solution as it worked for me after all Apple discussion posts failed:

    1.  Visit http://stiobhart.net/2015-05-03-apple-broke-ssl/

    2.  Follow the directions and patiently reload all of your Verisign certificates

    3.  The problem should be fixed.
