iPhone battery notification when fully charged

Hello,

I am using iPhone for more than a year now and I enjoy every bit of it.

My question is - Why iOS doesn't notify when iPhone is fully charged? Also, I believe nobody likes to rely on third party app(s) for such notification(s).

It is a serious bug and Apple really needs to look into it. Hope it gets fixed in next update(s).

Best Regards,

Exactly. I often find myself wanting to top up my phone to 100% before I go somewhere. I'm not in a rush to leave, but at the same time I do want to leave as soon as it's at 100%.

You can certainly submit your feedback to Apple here:

Meanwhile, you'll just need to look at the phone occasionally. Or, get a small external battery pack (a good thing anyway) so that you won't have to worry about topping off the phone before leaving.

Every battery regardless of chemistry (lead acid, silver zinc, NiMH, alkaline, lithium, etc) have a finite life span. Every discharge/charge cycle does diminish capacity, which is why cycles are the standard for rpoerting expected useful life of a battery. No chemical battery lasts forever. Using them inherently degrades them and steadily diminishes capacity.

But since the iPhone battery stops all charging when at capacity, leaving it plugged in does not contribute to any accelerated aging.

And like I said, we were brought up to unplug electronic devices, no matter how safe you say a device is, you can never tell when an accident may happen. I need the notification....

You don't need the notification. You want it based on a misunderstanding of the risks involved in the technology. Ask Apple to implement it. They probably won't.

It's a simple function, just like you know, Bluetooth sharing for other devices(non Apple) that Apple can't seem to make.

You mean like the feature Apple has chosen not to include in their iOS devices for safety and security (yours and content owners) that is very slow and inefficient?

No one here can give you what you want. Ask Apple.

*Lol* I won't even care in submitting a suggestion or feedback to Apple. I'm just another nobody customer, and the request is by of a few. Why would a giant company even listen.

Nothing is secure.

Actually, it will not continue charging once the battery is at capacity. The charging circuit will disconnect and will not reconnect while plugged in until the battery level has fallen (by oxidation/drift from full) by 5%-10%. You can leave an iDevice plugged in for days if you wish (and use it while plugged in) and you will not harm the battery at all - it will only actively charge the battery when the battery needs charging.

There is no "bug". Apple's smart Lithium cell battery powered devices (laptops, tablets, iPhones, iPods) have had active smart control charging systems built in to them all along. There is no need to do anything at all just because the battery has reached full capacity - the internal smart charging components will simply discontinue the charge and monitor the battery for when it needs topping off again. Informing you at any hour of the day or night that your battery is now at 100% serves no purpose for anything.

If you have a 3rd party battery app GET RID OF IT. There are none that do anything useful, and most of them increase battery discharge rates. There is no need for it, as @Michael Black explained.

Many thanks for explaining, Michael.

I stop charging my apple devices (MBP with retina display, iPhone, iPod shuffle) once they reach their capacity.

However my query (in a way) was - one won't look for battery percentage every 15-20 mins post reaching 80% or more. It is what I felt looking at other mobile phones (charged notification).

Cheers!!

I think everyone who has replied so far has completely missed the mark. As you all stated there is no need to take it off a charger once at 100%. However, there IS at least one valid reason to wanting to be notified when it's fully charged.

Let's say you are about to go hiking and you noticed you forgot to plug the phone in the night before. You don't happen to have a portable brick of a battery to carry to recharge your phone and if you did have one - you wouldn't want to carry it on the hike. So you want to wait until it is charged to 100% before you go. Now you don't know how long it will take to fully charge but to pass time you go on reddit. Without the phone alarming in some way to get your attention the next thing you'll know is that the sun is going down.

On buying MBP with retina display, one of the Apple genius in the store advised never overcharge it and till date I am acting upon his advice.

Also, he stated don't put your MBP for continuous charging. Charge it in the same way same as you do for your mobile phone.

Anyways, I'll keep on looking charged status (100% charge) like what I and other iPhone users do.

Actually, I take well care of my belongings and iPhone being a premium product, I raised this concern.

Anyways, Thank you very much for your kind support.

As an avid hiker, I can tell you that the hypothetical person you're describing is too clueless to be allowed beyond the back garden without a keeper, let alone on a hike.

Please explain how wanting a fully charged phone at the start of a hike would make someone so clueless they shouldn't leave the yard.

I'm pretty new on this forum and I was wondering how someone who belittles anyone who has a need from their iphone that it does not provide has so many of those points/levels. I've noticed it in several of the few threads I've read.

i figured it out. On your you condescending and completely unhelpful remark just now - somebody gave you a point! Silly me, I thought those were supposed to be given to posts that actually helped the person giving the point. Now I see they can also be given for attacking someone who doesn't blindly worship Apple and cover up any iPhone flaws.
