In order to sell iPhones in Qatar, Apple has to defeat FaceTime within the iPhone and that can't be undone.

Read your own first post where you said "I put the qatar sim back and still no facetime"!!

It will work only when you're in Qatar, connected to your carrier.

My iPhone 5 had the same issue when I came to India. But the facetime option comes back when I insert my Qatar sim but it goes as soon as the Qatar sim is removed.

I have a similar problem; no FaceTime app when I put my "3 UK" SIM card in my iPhone 6+ bought in Qatar. It doesn't matter which country I am in. Put he UK SIM card in and FaceTime APP dissappears. Put the Qatari SIM in and FaceTime APP is back again. Tried updates, hard resets, restrictions; just swapping the SIM card! So what is going on? I'm pretty sure Face time is allowed in the UK on the 3 Network, and while using my 3 UK SIM card whilst roaming in the U.S. And Australia. Same thing. Put the UK SIM card in and the face time APP is gone. interestingly I no longer see my own UK phone number in contacts at the top when I scroll down with the UK SIM card in but I do with my Qatari SIM card in and I can use face time whilst the Qatari SIM card is in in ALL COUNTRIES when on wifi and roaming. Please help. Any ideas Much appreciated. Face time IS Allowed in Qatar and the UK, so why is the APP dissappearing?

From the following article: Wireless carrier support and features for iPhone in the Middle East - Apple Support

See this note: FaceTime may be unavailable if your device originates from this region and becomes unlocked or is used in another country.

Same here when I go to the UK, US, Australia and put in a UK SIM card. FT APP vanishes and then re-appears when the Qatar SIM card is in (put the Qatari SIM BACK In whilst in any country and FT works with the Qatar SIM card in the phone!). WHY? IT SHOULD WORK IN THESE COUNTRIES TOO!

    I read that, yes. BUT.....

Phone was purchased unlocked. FaceTime works in Qatar and wherever I have been in the world with the Qatari SIM card in.

it just doesn't work with a UK SIM card in; it DISSAPEARS.

so I'm thinking it's perhaps a 3UK carrier problem and not the phone?

    The link you give says:

    QATAR:

The phone is working exactly as expected per the note I posted above.

FaceTime may be unavailable if your device originates from this region and becomes unlocked or is used in another country

Thanks for the reply. Appreciate your response greatly.

I hear what you are saying and see what the link says. "...FT May become unavailable..."

    - But surely, they are talking about buying it in the ME in countries where FT is BANNED, i.e. Saudi.

Anyway, I BOUGHT a new UNLOCKED iphone 6+ in Qatar (the same unlocked model as is sold in Apple Regents street in the UK; the A1524, I did the research so it would work normally in the UK, (like my iPhone 5 does).

(All iPhones are sold unlocked in Qatar As far as I know). So it's the same brand new (unmodified) iphone 6+ as is sold in the Apple Store UK right?

So, what is going on? If I had initiated the phone in the UK with my 3 SIM would I have FT working on it with my 3UK SIM or not?

EIther it's the same model unlocked iphone 6+ (the A1524) or it isn't? Surely It can't be the same model but works differently depending on whuch SIM card you put in it first. Or are you saying that the software is different or something? because the hardware isn't.

Why would Apple bother restricting Face time to a UK SIM card user who bought their phone abroad? - especially when it's the SAME model phone - the A1524? Apple say on their website this model iphone works in the UK. It doesn't mention ANY RESTRICTION on using Face time !

any background info would and a fix would be appreciated. I have read that creating a backup and restoring the phone may fix this problem. Any info on this would be appreciated. I signed up to a 3 feel at home contract so I could use FT whilst in 18 different countries at no extra cost and I can't do this currently, as the blooming FT APP  dissappears whenever I have my 3 UK SIM card in the phone. Makes no sense to me at all. How can I fix this bug?

    Thanks again.
