Feb 3, 2015 12:31 PM in response to dafevelosby JonJon555,From what I've read on the forums it seems that the only option is to go to the Apple store and swap it out. I'm heading in today to see if that is the case.

Feb 4, 2015 12:51 AM in response to JonJon555by dafevelos,i think so. but may i know if your iPhone is Jailbroken? i wonder if Apple could replace the phone when they will know that it came from Jailbreak. please let me know if you have any idea cuz my iphone is Jailbreak before the error update happened.

Feb 4, 2015 7:35 PM in response to dafevelosby JonJon555,My phone was not jailbroken. I'm not sure if they will check if your phone was jailbroken, I guess you can just take it to a store and hope they don't check.
Just to summarise what happened in my circumstance for anyone else that gets this problem.
- I tried to update from 8.1.2 to 8.1.3 over my home wi-fi network.
- When I came back to my phone I had the image of the white cable and red iTunes logo on the screen telling me to plug it into my computer.
- It tried to update via iTunes but failed.
- It then said I needed to restore from a backup, which I tried and that also failed. This came up with the Error code 56 and always occurred at the very last bit when it was updating/checking the firmware.
- I followed all the instructions in the recovery/restore iPhone instructions mentioned above and tried multiple times but always ended up with the same error.
- The next day i took it to an Apple store and told them what happened. They also tried to restore to factory default but ended up with the same error code at exactly the same point.
- At that point they said the phone was dead and replaced it at no cost as they said it was still under warranty. I only had the phone for 1 month.
- For those that are interested, I did not get the phone from an Apple store. I got it from Telstra on a contract, but they didn't even ask.
- This all took place in Melbourne, Australia.

Feb 5, 2015 10:20 AM in response to JonJon555by dafevelos, thanks for the reply.
so you mean they replace your iPhone?
so i need to take my phone also to the nearest apple store?
hope they will replace it also. but there is minor damage in my phone
i've drop it once before and there is a small crack and scratch to the left side of the phone.
but i think this is not the case why i cannot restore/update the phone.
the phone is almost 1 month with me and still there is a warranty.
i really appreciate your help.

May 4, 2015 1:44 PM in response to yuvaraj1994by JohanViskos,Sorry for replying so late...
But I don't think you have to replace the phone, just take out the sim card and sim card tray and then try to update the iPhone.
Worked for me.
