Q: Permissions Warnings explanation please

My 2010 27" iMac 2.8Ghz has been running erratically lately and although Diskwarrior 4.4 didn't find anything wrong, I ran Disc Utility to check the permissions and got the following:

Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.

Warning: SUID file “usr/lib/sa/sadc” has been modified and will not be repaired.

Warning: SUID file “usr/libexec/authopen” has been modified and will not be repaired.

Warning: SUID file “usr/libexec/security_authtrampoline” has been modified and will not be repaired.

Have I got anything to worry about? I have update to the latest OS 10.10.3 and have Sophos Antivirus which is automatically updated.

Thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 2.8 Ghz Intel Core i5

I forgot to add this one as well:

Warning: SUID file “System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SystemAdministration.framework/Versions/A/Res ources/readconfig” has been modified and will not be repaired.

They don't mean anything except what they state. The Permissions Repair is extremely ignorant of everything except what Apple programmed into it on the last update. It looks at the system files and compares them to the "receipts" that were installed when the original software was installed. If Apple changed any of the permissions on those files after the initial deployment, the Repair Permissions database knows nothing of them.

Also, if you change permissions on something for a valid reason, it has no idea that you changed them. It merely notes that they don't match the Receipts.

Several of yours are listed here: Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore - Apple Support

I don't know how often they update that list. It was last updated prior to the most recent updates.

Are you Repairing Disk Permissions for a specific reason? Generally, there is no need.

    Thanks Barney

Your very swift reply was reassuring. The only reason I was checking all this was as I stated in my post, my computer has been running a bit erratically and the internet has been noticeably slower. I have checked the network and restarted the modem. Whilst I was updating the OS to the current version, the computer did hang - nothing happened for about an hour or so and so had no option other than to turn the power off (YIKES!) and I am wondering if all this is as a result.

Just out of interest, if permissions repair is as pointless as you suggest, why bother with the repair button?

    Thanks again

At one time, several OS's ago, it had a purpose. Generally, it is only needed now after installing any of Adobe's software. They seem to have not figured out unix, yet.

    What does "erratically" mean?

How does it run in Safe Mode (besides a bit sluggish)?
