Q: Downloading AirPlay

How do I get AirPlay on my desktop?

Although I have AirPlay on my MacBook Pro, I do not have it on the desktop (System Preferences/Display).  I have the latest OS X and iTune.

Yes, you need a new computer.

    Different bluetooth chips.

You cannot "upgrade the motherboard” (or the bluetooth chip).

Note that is for using Airplay Display, meaning your Mac screen mirrored/displayed on the AppleTV.

You can probably still use Airplay to push audio/video to the AppleTV.

    Yes, I understand.

You want Airplay Display, not just Airplay.

Note the difference between Airplay and Airplay Display.

Open iTunes and you will see the Airplay icon next to the play/pause/next buttons.

Sorry, but it only partially worked.  As mentioned in one of my earlier posting, the System Preferences/Display must have a AirPlay on/off button.  Up to getting AirPlay in iTune was a process of assuring the proper Wi-Fi Network was selected.  Then, and only then, did the AirPlay icon show up in iTune.  I was able to select it but noted no action in Apple Tv on the TV from the desktop computer.

I am certain that there must be some form of activity in the System Preferences/Display dialog box.

Again, that is ONLY if you want Airplay Display.
I don't have that option in System prefs either and Airplay in iTunes works great on my mid 2010 Mac mini.

I was able to select it but noted no action in Apple Tv on the TV from the desktop computer.

You played something in iTunes and then selected the AppleTV as the Airplay device?
How about using the AppleTV directly to play something from iTunes on the computer?
    Does this work?
I am certain that there must be some form of activity in the System Preferences/Display dialog box.
I am certain you need it ONLY for Airplay Display, not Airplay thru iTunes.
Airplay and Airplay Display are two different actions.
So what exactly are you trying to accomplish?
    • Do you want to display your Mac screen on the TV? (You cannot)
    • Do you simply want to play you iTunes files on the AppleTV? (Use the AppleTV to play items from iTunes on your computer)

Yes, I want to [lay my computer on my TV.  I have done this with my MacBook Pro and it works fine but not on my desktop.

Airparrot2 works well on my Mac Pro (2008) 8-core.  Here I select a youtube video to stream from my Mac pro to AppleTV.

Unless I misunderstand, that should help save a few bucks down the road.

    Does it handshake with AirPlay?
