Q: I cannot delete iPhone keyboard shortcuts.  They keep restoring.

I have deleted old keyboard shortcuts that were no longer used and added new ones using the same shortcut.  For instance typing "eml" would auto-fill with my old email address.  I deleted this shortcut and made a new one - "eml" = new email address.  iCloud keeps restoring the old shortcuts, so now I have two "eml" shortcuts with two different email addresses.  Also, old shortcuts are constantly being restored!  I cannot delete any shortcut!  They will delete for a couple of days and then they are "restored" to my iPhone.  How the heck do you permanently delete keyboard shortcuts in iOS?  I tried turning off backup, deleting, turning on, waiting, updating to no avail.  Is there a way to completely wipe the backup/settings file stored in iCloud for an iOS device?

Well, I have spent ALL DAY on this fix and it would seem that if you have multiple devices, the problem does not resolve.

For me it’s not just a problem of re-appearing shortcuts, it’s also a failure to sync (sometimes) between iPad, iPhone, Mac and MBA.

Each bloody device has different shortcuts despite being part of the same account.

Some devices sync sometimes and some don’t.

Some shortcuts re-appear and some don’t.

Apple, we are nearly on iOS9 and this still doesn’t work in iOS 8.

    Talk about frustrating.

You don't have to sign out of your iCloud account. Second if you fix one device but then another device has the glitch it will just sync back up to iCloud and appear on your first device. Keep in mind your first device would still be fixed. So just clean up all your devices. I am tired from work, I won't be able to post as often as I would like .

Not on my iMac right? For a long time now, my iMac and my iPad mini shortcuts have been blank (signed into iCloud on both) while my phone is the one with the issues.. No syncing between any of them though.

Some time after doing the steps, some still came back.

Nina, love, how long did they actually stay away for?

I must report that today, at about noon, I checked them again and noticed that Omw - On My Way! had zombily re-appeared... However, I believe this is a stock/default pre-populated shortcut, so it may be as-expected.  I immediately erased it and it hasn't come back.

So far, so good on my end.  However, I still have not logged back into my iPad as of yet.  When did you notice your zombiecuts return, at any particular moment maybe after you signed in on one of your other devices?

Hey Shrek. I'm sure you didn't mean any offence. But, calling people 'love' may be heard as a bit insulting/sexist. Ya might consider deleting that from your post. Your local neighbourhood political correctness police thank you.

Regarding the link to icopybot... I don't know much about this so I did a quick google search. The first thing I found was:
http://download.cnet.com/iCopyBot/3000-18553_4-10906705.html  A user there refers to icopybot as having malware.

Another link from reddit debates if they should allow links to a software that may or may not be related called 'copybot' instead of 'icopybot'.  http://www.reddit.com/r/secondlife/comments/22ov90/meta_should_the_second_life_s ubreddit_allow_links/

Can anyone provide a link to a reputable website that actually confirms this software is safe and not simply grabbing all of our iphone's private data?

Right. there's a slight risk I suppose with downloading any unknown software. However, it was easily uninstalled and in order to send any information to a remote server it would have to access/open up ports, and that was never done.

Skepticize if you wish, meanwhile my shortcuts are gone and phone is functioning perfectly.

I did the steps exactly as I was supposed to, most were deleted (so far) but some do still come back after a restart. I did the process twice to see if I could get rid of the last 38 that are still showing up. For me, "some" is 38. It was so much worse before. The issue is still annoying. At this very second I would say it worked for most of the shortcuts that kept coming back but again, there's a handful still appearing. And Timothy, I've been doing a deep system scan with Virus Scanner for the last 20 minutes. Usually it takes an hour or so and I still have the software in my applications folder, nothing has come up so far. (I'm skeptical as well)

well, at least you're seeing SOME improvement.

I Think the problem is your other devices.  Are they still coming back even if you leave the other devices signed out?

It seems to have worked better for me. Some  shortcuts had to be delete several times.

My issue now is iOS and OSX shortcuts don't talk to each other.

Not sure if that is an iOS8 bug or Yosemite.

Lol...this is crazy!!  so, prior to this procedure, they DID talk to each other fine, page?

Well,  I did a little research on VOWSoft, Ltd. and apparently theyre a software dev from China.  They've produced many types  of softwares, for backing up,copying, syncing, uninstalling, etc...  Their software is licensed through several software companies in California.  Besides some adware imbedded in their software here-and-there, it looks relatively safe.

I uninstalled it very easily, without incidence.  I used CCleaner to uninstall.

As stated previously, shortcuts are still gone after several syncs/since sunday night.  cheers!

I got the result "no malware found" so that's good. And to everyone else, I just want to get rid of the 38 or so.. and get them to sync between all of my devices... The strange part is the shortcuts came back on my phone while I was signed out of iCloud.

    Hi Nina

I am in exactly the same boat as you. Some zombies are still there and some are gone. Also my shortcuts are not talking from IOS to OSX and for quite some time now. At lease most are gone right?

At least this is a move in the right direction and I am about to go have another look at the back up and delete again perhaps. I did notice that it took quite awhile for my shortcuts to reappear and when they did everything was right. When I turned off and on the phone again we had zombies. Of course they are shortcuts I use the most.

To everyone good team work as I have had a ticket with Apple for 1.5 weeks now and the Engineers have not gotten this far. I did submit a link to my rep for this thread and he did forward it to his engineer. I suggest WE ALL DO THIS under feedback or an apple rep email address.

    Regards,

    Robert
