Q: can i restore my phone from the last back up after settingit up as a new iphone

I just got my replacement phone from the sprint store and the guy couldn't back it up or restore it from my last back up. It won't allow me to restore it without the new update. Help anyone? I'm getting frustrated

iPhone 5c, iOS 8.1.2
