    Hi there,

I was getting a similar behaviour with yosemite native email that the exchange account for showing intermittent issue of not synchronizing the emails unless i force synchronize it or quit and re-open the application.

For now i have found a workaround for it by creating an Automator workflow application to get new mail messages (like synchronizing the mailbox) and have created a plist file as a launch agent which is doing a forced sync in the background every 30 secs and getting the emails instantly so atleast all the email  messages are being synchronized without any issues now.

The workflow application is working like i am clicking on Get new mail tab in the native mail every 30 second but i dont have to do it manually but rather the launch agent does this in the background.

    Hope this helps.

This worked for me.  Thank you so much.  I've been trying to figure this out for the last two weeks.

    This solution worked for me:

I've created a simple Applescript in Automator:

    tell application "Mail"
      repeat
      check for new mail
delay 30 -- loop repeated each 30 sec.
      end repeat
    end tell

Then I've added it in the "Login items" in "User & Groups" settings.

Hope you can find this useful.

I thought I'd share what seems to have worked for me. I have 10.10.2.

    • In Mail->Preferences->[Exchange acct]->Advanced: disable "Automatically detect and maintain account settings"
    • In Mail->Preferences->[Exchange acct]->Outgoing Mail Server->(dropdown) edit SMTP server list->Advanced: disable "Automatically detect and maintain account settings" (also, re-select the exchange server in the dropdown if it was lost, mine did)
    • Restart Mail (important!)

You also want to change the default from 5 minutes to 1 minute (Under "General") if you want new mails to show up timely.

We got the same issue for receive new emails proper - just disable "Automatically detect and maintain account settings"  but the issue with "unread" mark emails after reading is still actual. If anyone solve it?

Time to time happen to me as well. Sometime the "unread" mark it disappear automatically after a while, sometime I restart Mail instead (closing it completely with Cmd + Q).

    Hope you find this useful.

Cmd + Q works, but I think what this is not a good way to solve this issue, there is a lot of users (or maybe everyone who updated to the last version) who have the same problem and Apple must fix this problem with Mail.app... At previos versions (Maveriks) Mail.app with exchnage worked good...

Are apple support read this communitie?

I found this thread because having the same sync issue, and suggested workarounds only temporarily helped me (e.g., switching on and off automatic discovery).

However, here I found some vague indication about the maximum number of messages per mailbox suggested by Microsoft (5000). I was fairly beyond in the main folder, and after having reduced the number by moving messages in other folders, the issue seems solved (not sure yet it will last, but behavior is much better now).

    ok....

I have been running my inbox on 365 with less than 5000 email for the past few months and this has absolutely solved the issue.

For anyone having issues please see my past posts on this thread...

Apple still have not addressed the issue

Only now I saw your previous post - someone should have starred it before because is a solution   . I did it now (I reached the same info through some longer path).

However, I'm not sure whether the issues is on Apple or Microsoft.

This same issue of deletes not syncing back happens to me on two different computers, connecting to Exchange via IMAP even in a junk folder that only has a handful of messages in it.  Read/Unread syncs almost immediately, but deletes only sometimes sync when i close out of Mail.  Sometimes w/ out closing mail the delete syncs in a few hours...

Same issues here, for years actually, although the latest updates with Yosemite has helped me communicating with the mail servers a lot.

I hate to say it, but it seems that since Eudora 10 years ago, there has not been a reliable mail client around.

A colleague of mine, professionally  trained in ICT, sitting next door to me, using lots of Microsoft stuff - and Apple sometimes - has concluded that using a browser directly with the mailserver is the only reliable way to work with the Exchange servers!

I know, it's not a great help,, but it seems that mail apps are causing problems in all types of user forums. A search for issues - on all platforms will produce millions of hits on the web.

Although, we all hope that Apple keep up the good work and try to improve even more....
