Mar 6, 2015 8:36 PM in response to ATorresNby Clay Taft,I have had my IPhone 6 for a week now. Per Apple's message, I upgraded to 8.1.3 the first time I turned it on. My Touch ID has never worked. Similar complaints to everyone above. I have redone my thumb fingerprint at least 6 times. It works for about 3 hours, then - no recognition. I have tried other fingers and have seen no improvement. Very disappointing. I will try gretchenfromma's solution in a few hours to see if that works.

Mar 7, 2015 2:04 PM in response to ATorresNby Clay Taft,Update to above post. No success with gretchenfromma's solution. Touch ID is supposed to be a wow factor for the IPhone. Very frustrated. Backup and restore doesn't work either. Off to the Apple store. This is not Apple quality. Fix it Apple...NOW

Mar 7, 2015 2:38 PM in response to ATorresNby RIGIRL23,Mine started out of the blue just now. i find my index finger works though. Not my thumb. if that starts failing I will be heading to the ATT store where THEY can deal with it.

Mar 9, 2015 11:49 AM in response to ATorresNby minmegs,My iphone 6 has repeatedly had the same issue. Two iOS updates ago seemed to fix the issue. Now, on iOS 8.1.3 and the touch ID suddenly stopped working this morning.
BUT! I made a discovery. Under the same settings (same place, clean hands, seconds apart), touch ID failed when the phone was charging (using Apple original cable/charger), Didn't even recognize that I had a finger on the home button and prompted me to swipe to the passcode entry.
However, Touch ID WORKED when I unplugged the phone.
Plugged back in, touch ID failed to work again.

Mar 21, 2015 10:34 AM in response to minmegsby Clearquietlife,Thanks minmegs - I have the EXACT same issue and it was driving me nuts so really pleased that I have got to the bottom of it although it is ridiculous that it doesn't work when you are plugged.
I only just got my iPhone 6 last week so I am using the original USB wire plugged into my laptop.
I guess they will fix it some day...

Mar 28, 2015 3:37 PM in response to jason269by OskarFelix,I hope Apple comes up with a real, true fix and not just these lame bullet points. I was excited to upgrade from iPhone 5 to 6 Plus in December. Touch ID and Apple Pay were important features to me. I had no difficulty enrolling my fingers. I successfully used Touch ID MAYBE 6 times. After Christmas, I was at the Apple Store for a couple of hours buying and setting up a Macbook. While I was doing that, my Genius Bar rep helped address my Touch ID issue. We deleted and re-enrolled my fingers. He had me basically massaging the home button so that it could get to know my fingerprints better. Of course, it worked great while in the store, but hasn't worked since. My phone is current with all the IOS updates. After reading all of these posts, I deleted my fingerprints and enrolled them again. It worked twice, and not since. I'm disappointed and disgusted.

Mar 28, 2015 7:56 PM in response to OskarFelixby Ocean 17,I have this problem since January, and it's getting worse.
Touch ID has become so bad, that it's a true hindrance to use my phone.
I have had stretches of twenty, thirty attempts where it didn't work in a row. Then, suddenly, it works again for a couple of hours.
Also, I feel that I have to change my thumb position. It is a different position form where I could use it originally.
Apple is incredibly depending on the iPhone business. I can't believe they are sleeping behind the wheel on this.

Mar 28, 2015 9:12 PM in response to Ocean 17by Clay Taft,Ocean 17, I had the same problem. Erase, re-fingerprint, get success, then - nothing. Following the suggestions of others that posted to this thread, I took my IPhone back to AT&T and explained the problem. They had never seen, or heard of the problem, but replaced my phone with a new one. I told them they needed to get on this site and follow IPhone threads. The new one works better, but my fingers must be dry and clean in order for touch ID to work. My thumbs seem to be the biggest challenge, but the first finger on both hands seems to work fine.
Also, there is a short period of time that AT&T will do any warranty work (maybe a couple of weeks) after the initial purchase. After that, you take yours to the Apple store and they will replace it.
Hope this helps. I agree that Apple has not got this dialed in, but biometrics are the way to go. They better get this fixed, because it is a deal breaker for anyone considering IPhone because of their touted biometric technology.
Cheers

Apr 1, 2015 3:21 PM in response to Clay Taftby Robert573,Upgraded to the iPhone 6 Plus last week same problems fingerprint ID is nonexistent. Fingerprint ID is useless. Works once or twice then completely quits have set up fingerprint ID over 100 times in the last six days you would think Apple could fix this problem in one years time

Apr 1, 2015 6:51 PM in response to Robert573by Robert 8,I bought my first iPhone 6 on 2/20/15 and found that the Touch ID worked for only a few hours. One Apple Sr. Advisor said it was a software problem; a second Sr. Advisor said it was a hardware problem and sent me to an Apple store for a replacement. That worked quite well for several hours and then stopped functioning completely. After endless hours on the Apple Care line, several trips to the Genius Bar, reinstalling my data and operating system and deleting and resetting my fingerprint I was nowhere. One of the three Sr. Advisors with whom I spoke said he would have the engineers call me but that has yet to happen. In fact Apple has closed the case. What appears to have finally worked - for me - was using my forefinger instead of my thumbs. For the past three days the phone has performed as advertised. Stayed tuned. I can't wait to tell the engineers or Tim Cook.

Apr 15, 2015 5:24 PM in response to ATorresNby Seattle Web Guru,I also have this issue.
Touch ID worked perfectly when I purchased the phone. After each update, my fingerprint has issues being recognized. Sometimes it works after 5 tries, sometimes it flat out quits and tells me to use the pass code. After re-imaging my prints again, it'll work, but on the next iOS update, broken again.
Just about as frustrating as Siri telling me "she ***** and to ask her later".

Apr 17, 2015 7:50 PM in response to Seattle Web Guruby Robert 8,After two months with the iPhone 6 and the struggles that I outlined above I am ready to rate this product as excellent with the exception of the Touch ID which is, at best, a work in progress. Most of the time it does work but it will become unresponsive for reasons that are a mystery to me. My experience parallels that of the other users here and that is frustrating and disappointing. But what troubles me most is my conversations with several Apple Sr. Advisors who apparently don't see the need to escalate this to higher levels in the organization. If erratic performance like this does not merit bringing management into the discussion, then what does? We continuously get updates for problems - bugs - that are often invisible to most users. But this - a faulty Touch ID that is heavily marketed by Apple - doesn't merit an update and a fix? I don't get it. And apparently Apple doesn't monitor these community reports and replies and ignores feedback reports that are sent directly to the company. With Apple's history and wealth this is inexcusable. Where are you now Steve Jobs when we need you?!

Apr 22, 2015 11:25 AM in response to Robert 8by tjschuh,My wife and I have iPhone 6 plus and both have this problem. A fingerprint will work and first and then sporadically. If you go into the touch id settings it is easy to test because background for the finger turns gray. A finger may not work at all one day and then work another day. Apple rep on telephone told me your finger prints are affected (change) with moisture, etc. I find this somewhat hard to believe since fingerprints are used all the time to identify people and even evidence of a crime. How could this be if the finger prints are to flakey? Very frustrating. Try to use apple pay and you never know if it will work or not. Surprised Apple hasn't been more responsive to this common problem since they want "everybody" to use apple pay.

Apr 22, 2015 12:59 PM in response to tjschuhby Robert 8,As I said in my reply of April 17th, Apple is not paying attention to this web site and the numerous complaints about the Touch ID malfunction. Worse, the Apple technicians - even at the senior level - are apparently not escalating this to higher levels within the company. Until Tim Cook or one of his friends encounters this problem it isn't getting fixed any time soon I fear.
