Feb 15, 2015 10:39 AM in response to sunnyinlondonby Kotep_,spoke with Applecare. No help at all.
Told me to take a sim card from my iPhone and put in in the iPad ( can't do that as its a company phone)
then said to go buy a sim card or prepaid cell service. ( don't want that.. why should i have to pay to fix the error? isn't that what Applecare is for)
Will try calling again and see if i get someone that knows what they are talking about.

Feb 15, 2015 11:18 AM in response to sunnyinlondonby celmont,This nasty SIM pop-up bug has been frustrating me for a couple of months. Apple doesn't even acknowledge the problem ignored it. I've stopped recommending apple products as their client care has seriously degraded.
Along with this annoying "no SIM" pop-up bug, my iPad3 was giving me instability issues. I couldn't delete applications for some reasons... I could get the apps to "shake" but couldn't get it to delete. The app icons would only continue to "shake" until I did a hard reset (Power + home button). So I did a complete factory reset on my iPad and re-installed from a backup. Oddly enough, I have not received a SIM pop-up since (it's been about 10 days now).
I suggest you might want to try to do a backup, completely reset your iPad and re-install.

Feb 23, 2015 8:07 AM in response to sunnyinlondonby jazcan,I waited to update my iPad 2 but finally bit the bullet & did the update last week. Lo & behold, I started getting the 'no sim card' popup especially while using the App Store (updating & downloading new apps), settings, & apps that required location based services. I read through this thread & searched elsewhere for a solution. After turning off most location services & going through every app (I have many) the problem still remained. Airplane mode worked but I wanted to see if I could fix the problem. Prior to updsting to iOS 8.1.3 & had 'reset all settings' not erasing data. This morning I decided to do it again. still keeping my data. When my iPad rebooted I got the 'no sim card' message once (which is normal) but so far (fingers crossed) it has not reappeared. I also noticed that it rebooted with location services off which I then re-enabled leaving all the defaults on. I have opened maps, the App Store & settings, along with various other apps & my iPad is behaving nicely. It is also snappier than before especially safari. Maybe there were some cache files or corrupted files leftover from the last install. For anyone still having this problem, give it a try before totally resetting your iPad as new.

Mar 3, 2015 6:10 AM in response to sunnyinlondonby purplegenome,Apple customer service doesn't give us other choice than install Cydia and that app to block this issue..
My admiration to the brilliant mind that came up with the idea of popping up a "No SIM card installed" reminder, that may be the most useful thing in the last iOS version.
The other day I was using my iPad and then I felt this strange feeling in my body, like when you are missing something like your keys or wallet, I tried checking my pockets with no success, then start zapping around with iPad apps but couldn't realize what was wrong... Suddently, out of no where, iOS saved my life, he reminded me that NO SIM was installed in my iPad and my life took a new purpose, I'm a new man again and I think I'm a better human being and stuff.
Not surprised if in the next packaging of the new iPads there's gonna be a sticker featuring this awesome tool... Something like " SIM Card reminder Included!"
The only con I see in this great reminder is that when I'm playing heavy-to-load videogames in the iPad, this message kicks me out of the game losing part of my progress and forcing me to reload the entire game app, but no big deal, my SIM Card situation awareness is far more important.

Mar 3, 2015 6:47 AM in response to purplegenomeby jazcan,In the end, I put an inactive sim card into my iPad 2. I then turned OFF cellular data which stopped all messages. That was over a week ago & I have not had the message since. The card originally came with my iPad but I had never used it. I was able to turn off cellular data on my iPad air 2 by asking Siri to do it, so no need for a sim card. It's an easy solution for an annoying problem & in my case, problem solved!

Mar 12, 2015 2:33 PM in response to sunnyinlondonby sub780lime,If anyone is looking to go the 'insert sim card to get message to go away route', but you are lazy like me and don't want to hunt for/beg for one at a store, Amazon sells a nano sim card for 1 cent with free shipping. That's the route I went.

Mar 30, 2015 7:59 PM in response to sunnyinlondonby jchowder84,Solution found! I took the Sim card that is in my iPhone 6 and temporarily installed it in my iPad Air 2 running iOS 8.1.2. This allowed me access to the cellular section of my settings. Once in my settings I disabled cellular data. Then, I removed my Sim card and placed it back in my iPhone 6. I haven't seen the problem since, fingers crossed!

Apr 6, 2015 7:02 AM in response to sunnyinlondonby alvacch2,I have a slightly differnt issue. I am now on my third I-Pad 2 for this same thing. Although I have a sim card that is active and costing me monthly, the machine does not recognize it. Apple would like me to spend another $240 to replace this as I did last year. I'm thinking Kindle Fire for $159 is a better deal!
Disgusted with the lack of service. I would think the forth machine should be no charge!

Apr 22, 2015 2:12 PM in response to sunnyinlondonby TigAmv1,I was having the same issue. The workaround is to put your iPad into airplane mode first, then turn on the wifi. This will keep it in airplane mode which turn off the cellular connection but will still allow you to use wifi. Hope this helps!

Apr 25, 2015 11:40 PM in response to sunnyinlondonby slow_but_low,This bug was really annoying for me, but finally it's fixed for me since 8.3

May 17, 2015 6:30 PM in response to slow_but_lowby gordonfrombusselton,This was still doing it for me in 8.3 but I found a solution. I have a Nano Sim powered phone (iPhone 6) so I took the nano sim from that, put it in my iPad and turned off celluar data. When I returned the sim to the iPhone, I haven't had any issues since with my iPad.

May 23, 2015 3:54 PM in response to sunnyinlondonby GadgetJohn,I too have this issue. iPad 3G with iOS 8.3. I recently switched from AT&T to T-Mobile and the iPad will no longer activate for cellular data. So I removed the SIM and activated over WiFi. Now I get the No SIM card installed message every 10 seconds. I have turned off cellular data, switched to Airplane mode and then re-enabled WiFi and again the message pops up. have people found taking their iPad's to an Apple store useful to get this resolved?
