Q: How do I fix my tracking pad problem?

My tracking pad is doing strange things all of a sudden! It will work normally and then suddenly, the cursor seems to develop a mind of its own and starts highlighting things on screen! I try using different commands on the tracking pad and that doesn't work. The only thing that makes a difference is if I pick up the laptop and tilt it forward and put it back down? Or sometimes if I clean the tracking pad. Help! What's happening?!

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Here is that Apple support article on trackpads:

As may have found out, a very thorough cleaning of the trakpad will sometimes restore functionality.

pen up the MBP and inspect the battery to see if it has expanded. It resides under the trackpad and may be interfering with it. If that is the case, replace the battery immediately.
