Q: How do I get all drives to show in the Finder?

I just did a clean reinstallation of OS 10.8.5 on a MacPro (4.1 - - two 2.93GHz Quad Core Xeon processors). The startup drive and two other drives do not appear in the finder. How do I get them to appear? Also, how effective is Migration Assistant in moving applications intact? Is it better to reinstall all the software?

I'd be most appreciative of help.

Thanks,

Steve

If you mean you want the drives to show on the desktop, go to Finder on the menu bar, Preferences and check:

Migration Assistant is good for moving everything from one computer to another, but can be rather slow if you have a lot of material.  Using an ethernet wire and just drag and drop from one to another is much faster.

Or if from one hard drive to another, you can use Disk Utility and set the drive with the applications as the Source, and the other drive as the Destination and the Restore the material which will bit copy from one to the other.

You can also go to the Finder Preferences Ralph posted, then Sidebar if you want them to show in the Sidebar.

I just use the shortcut as follow: Launch Finder then press 'shift' + 'command' + 'C' all at the same time is effectively like ‘My Computer’ in Windows. It will give you a list of all the connected drives on your Mac. Both internally and externally connected drives as well as Network drives.
