Apr 23, 2015 3:37 PM in response to Decarlby Kappy,Yes. But if you plan to upgrade to 10.10.3 then you need to be sure you get iPhoto 9.6.1 first.

Apr 23, 2015 3:47 PM in response to Decarlby Decarl,I may have found the answer - check out: Get started with Photos for OS X - Apple Support
This Webpage states that:
Using iPhoto and Aperture after you migrate to Photos
iPhoto — and Aperture, if you downloaded it — remains on your system in the Applications folder, and you can continue to use it. If you open iPhoto or Aperture after you upgrade to Photos, you’ll be asked if you want to open your library there or in Photos.
Any changes or edits you make in iPhoto or Aperture aren't reflected in Photos. And any changes or edits you make in Photos will not be reflected in iPhoto or Aperture.

Apr 23, 2015 4:00 PM in response to petermac87by K Shaffer,So, in a second scenario, a Mavericks user upgrading to Yosemite, may not have a chance to update
their iPhoto since there isn't an update to accommodate the situation; since Mavericks has iPhoto 9.5
as part of former iLife applications. Before Photos, there had been an upgrade available, if one was
already at Yosemite 10.10.x for iPhoto. Of course that 'unsupported upgrade' is no longer at App Store.
Pity the fool who follows the shining path without significant alternative to GPS, auto-pilot, & w/o backups.

Apr 23, 2015 4:34 PM in response to Decarlby petermac87,Then why are you asking about support for iPhotos? Just click on it as always and use it.

See here: Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS X 10.10.3
I don't have any direct feedback that this will work in the scenario you propose, but I assume it will.

Apr 24, 2015 12:24 PM in response to Barney-15Eby K Shaffer,Thank you for this information; I saved the link to your user tip and hope
the upgrade to Yosemite (which I hope to accomplish on a second HDD
internal to the Late 2012 Mini server model, which has two) while the
original Mavericks remains in the first hard drive. It included applications
that were to have free upgrade, in Yosemite. This is part is where it gets
rather dubious, since the new upgrade may seek to overwrite original
location and not go to the new location in a different internal HDD.
And will look to see if an update to iPhoto that was done in Mavericks
(after launching the Mini in January this year, new) appears in App Store.
Yosemite version iPhoto vaporized, of course, with Photos availability; this
from short list of "incompatible updates" in App Store, that are for Yosemite.
