Q: Constantly locking; pausing workouts

I've incurred two issues thus far that are bothersome. My second day of using the watch, it suddenly doesn't seem to be recognizing that it's on my wrist...it constantly locks. Very annoying to have to enter my passcode every time I want to check it; decided to turn off passcode locking for now. The other issue I noticed today was when I went to workout. Yesterday when I went for a walk I brought my iPhone and used the workout app on the watch...it worked great. Today, I went to do pole fitness, I selected "other" as workout type in the watch app, yet it constantly paused the session. I don't know if it's because my iPhone was in proximity and since it was stationary it assumed I wasn't moving or what, but the watch should have detected my bodys movement and elevated heart rate and realized I was indeed in motion. Anyone have a similar experience or any suggestions as to what I can do to negate these issues? Thanks for any advice!

Yes. My watch did  not update the exercise (green) ring when I cycled for 20 minutes on a stationary cycle--despite measured HR at target. Apple rep said exercise ring relies solely on HR, but I suspect it also is looking at accelerometer data.

I wanted to give an update as I gave some deeper thought into what could have caused the change in the watch's ability to register that it was indeed on my wrist. The first day I wore it, Saturday, I initially placed the watch closer to my wrist. I have very slender wrists though, and the watch sat partially over a protruding bony bump that felt a tad awkward and uncomfortable. So Sunday, I positioned the watch a little further down my wrist, behind the bump...where the watch's sensors were directly on top of a small, black tattoo. I wouldn't have expected a tattoo to be an issue for the watch, but today I placed the watch closer to my wrist again and it hasn't had an issue recognizing it's on my wrist yet. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has tattoos on their wrist if they've incurred problems with the watch, or if my watch's issues this weekend were an anomaly.

The heart rate sensor works by reflected light. That being so, it might be confused by the ink in the tattoo.

If it helps, here's the detail on how the sensor works:

I have a similar issue that my watch isn't detecting that it is on my wrist correctly. For now, I've turned off Wrist Detection in the options on the suggestion of an Apple Engineer via Apple Support and apparently it's something that should be fixable via software.

I have no tattoos or anything else like that which should be getting in the way of detection.

Thanks for the suggestion and info! I'm relieved to hear I'm not the only one dealing with this and that it hopefully is indeed fixable. While over my tattoo, the watch could still get a reading of my heart rate, so I wasn't sure why it couldn't consistently detect it was on my wrist. Bugs are inevitable with anything brand spanking new

I'm having this problem too and sent feedback.  You should too, to bring attention to this problem:  http://www.apple.com/feedback/watch.html

    Ha ha - it seems I'm a genius .

Google "Apple watch tattoo" and see the amount of stuff that comes back - apparently it's now Tattoogate

Although it doesn't help you that much, it at least corroborates the theory
